ITEM: I've released Manhunt Part 6, ... Must Converge, with peer review incomplete (but generally favorable) and without a full proofreading, because I wanted to get it posted tonight as a favor for a regular in need. It will be further reviewed tomorrow evening and may be subject to some repairs, but I think the essence of it is sound, or I wouldn't have posted it. Still, as the sign in the mall says, pardon our dust.ITEM: My original plan for Manhunt was to post the six installments serially, then make a concatenated "omnibus edition" for the archive. However, especially given the "double-sized issue" that is ... Must Converge, I've had it put to me by my colleague Phil Moyer that it works best if left as a serial, and I agree. In keeping with the usual policy for serials with more than three parts, it will be acquiring its own subpage under its appropriate era page, and a link from the main UF page (as with other subseries like Twilight and CSI: New Avalon) as soon as we have a chance to put the graphics and code together.
ITEM: Purely as an informative note, if I had concatenated all six parts of Manhunt into a single document, it would be just shy of 400,000 bytes. That would make it the longest single installment of UF (almost 20K longer than Core 3: Out In the Cold) and the second-longest EPU document ever, after NXE the Movie: Apotheosis Now. (Admittedly, that does count six sets of redundant credits that would be omitted from an actual omnibus version, but still - big!)
ITEM: We wrote Part 6 almost entirely tonight.
ITEM: I can't feel my left hand, but it still types! Weird.
ITEM: Manhunt is complete, but there are three Mini-Stories already in the planning phase that connect to it - one that recounts an unseen event within the bounds of the story itself; one a flashback that explains the presence of a particular item; and one a follow-up of sorts, showing one of Gryphon's early efforts to recruit members for the "new" WDF in the early 2380s. Will I be able to sustain the momentum, in the light of the above, to get them done in a timely manner? We'll all find out, 'cause I got no idea!
I'm off to bed. Tomorrow I'm going to go see Star Trek for the third time (with my father, who hasn't been yet). I'll be home in the evening. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the final installment and the potential for a peek into the tail end of the process, depending on how tomorrow's review completion goes. :)
Excelsior!
