"From the "Dreams we wish were real" department..."

I had a dream last night that I went to a UF convention. It was absolutely huge, and everyone who was in UF was there, as well as tens of thousands of fans. It was mind-boggling.

There were lots of group photos, a dinner (and I can't even imagine the logistics of having a dinner for tens of thousands), and I got to talk to some of the stars. Akio was actually a really nice guy off-camera.

Then after the con was pretty much over, I bought a book the organizers were selling. Though it wasn't that big, it managed to show pretty much everything that had happened during the entire three-day weekend the con ran.

Isn't that always the way? I've read that the late Peter Cushing, for instance, was really just the sweetest guy.

Yeah. I get the feeling that someone who is actually an asshole when he's not on the set wouldn't survive long at EPU.

...This now leaves me wanting UF bloopers like NXE got.

Hmm, I wonder how often Kei made Gryphon blow his lines... or vice versa.

“They planned their campaigns just as you might make a splendid piece of harness. It looks very well; and answers very well; until it gets broken; and then you are done for. Now I made my campaigns of ropes. If anything went wrong, I tied a knot; and went on.”

In UF1, we blew the budget by doing multiple takes of the battle of DAKA. We got it all on the first shot, but it was all so cathartic...

Seems to be the way of Hollywood. Some of the most memorable "heroes," were absolute arseholes and drama queens off-camera, while memorable "villians" often were some of the greatest and friendliest people to work with.

There is a persistant rumor that Peter Cushing found the boots he was supposed to wear as Grand Moff Tarkin in the first Star Wars movie so uncomfortable that he worked with the cinematographer to find out every scene that there was no chance of the boots being seen in...

...and then he went out himself and bought some bunny slippers and wore them on the set, in order to offset the discomfort of the boots.

He also sent the cinematographer in question a bottle of very good scotch in thanks, which strikes me as terribly classy.

"Sir, let me take this moment to compliment you on your fashion sense, particularly your slippers."

I'd definitely have to agree with ya.

Somewhat related: according to Carrie Fisher Sir Alec Guinness once paid Mark Hamill $20 to go away because Hamill was annoying him by asking him too many acting questions.

This caused some problems with Episode 3. They wanted to digitally insert him on the bridge of the Star Destroyer next to Vader, but they couldn't find any full body shots of him from the back that would work with the lighting.

(Presumably there were some with the bunny slippers. ;)
