"Just how perceptive is Azalynn?"
|
I've been re-reading SoS, and this question came to me. I've thought of it before, but forgot to ask. It almost seems that Azalynn is an empath. She's incredibly good at reading people, both their intents and their worries. She also has a knack of being in the right place at the right time. I get the feeling that she's going to pursue an education in psycology. (Or something else that will help her help others--like Saionji) Is Azalynn's spirituality a trait to her culture/race, or is she a shaman if a sort? --Chris "What is the difference between a fighter and a warrior?" >Is Azalynn's spirituality a trait to her culture/race, or is she a >shaman if a sort? Azalynn is Azalynn; it's difficult to explain exactly what makes her so special. The people of Dantrov are, by and large, a very spiritual people, and since we've only seen Azalynn, it's hard to say just how she ranks compared to, say, her parents, or her siblings (of which she has fourteen, counting both classes of Dantrovian sibling together). I hope one day to rectify that with a story; in the meantime, perhaps I'll put together a datafile on Dantrov and put it up here. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Please, do. And while you're at it, could you explain that "Both Classes of Dantrovian sibling" comment, as well? Thanks Luc "Doing the Obvious since 19XX" French |

>And while you're at it, could you explain that "Both Classes of >Dantrovian sibling" comment, as well? Well, that'll be in the file, but if you can't wait, OK: In Dantrovian society, people who share the same parents are grouped into two different classifications:
- Makhanai, those who have shared the pouch; literally, littermates. Dantrovians are generally born in groups of somewhere between 3 and 7. Makhanaina tend to be very close-knit groups. If you hear a Dantrovian refer to someone as his brother or sister in Standard, odds are he's talking about one of his makhanai. They never use "littermate" - they find it demeaning. Children, a Dantrovian will inform you, are not litter.
- Nokhanai, children of the same parents; full siblings who are of a different makhanaina. These are often born far enough apart that different makhanaina are members of different generations, so Dantrovians don't tend to know their nokhanai any better than they know, for example, friends to whom they aren't related by blood.
Half-siblings are pretty common on Dantrov too; they're more or less handled the same as nokhanai, but the word doesn't apply to them - it implies a full blood relationship. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Most likely she is also studying other peoples body languages and facial expressions. If you don't think that humans don't have them (Pheromones that is) I'll laugh at you next time I see you trying to attach your self to another member of that race.

I would hazard a guess that she is good at reading people _because_ she is determined to help them whenever possible. Her interpretation of the Dantrovian philosophy (I say her because we haven't seen any other Dantrovians, as Gryphon pointed out) requires that she be good at seeing how people feel. As a result, she has most likely been honing her ability to read body language and perceive emotions (one can be an empath without being psychic, you know) since she was young. Living with Amanda, a person of reserved and stoic mannerisms, serves as excellent practice. Ebony the Black Dragon aka Draco Draconis Ebenium known to Mistress Cleo as Aaron F.
