Maybe you're too young to remember... back when I was a kid, there were ads for Kool-Aid (if you're from a foreign country, Kool-Aid is a popular brand of powdered drink mix, available in a variety of fruit flavors, some of them quite weird - I'm very fond of their Blue Raspberry Lemonade variety) on Saturday-morning TV which featured a mascot character called Kool-Aid Man. Kool-Aid Man was a man in a gigantic plastic pitcher costume, like a sports mascot, if you ever found a sports team called, say, the Oskaloosa Pitchers Full of Fruit Punch. Thirsty kids would cry out for relief, and with a jaunty cry of "OH YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAH!", Kool-Aid Man would crash through the nearest wall, leaving a Kool-Aid-Man-shaped hole in his wake, and deliver unto the kids refreshment.

I saw so many of those ads during my formative years that your statement instantly triggered the recollection. :)

Nit (and useless fact of the day): The footprints in concrete are at the Chinese Theater (which is now dwarfed by the "We can't decide on a single style of building so let's just throw a whole bunch together and see where it lands" monstrosity that is the new Kodak Theater that they plan to hold the Oscars at from now on). The Hollywood Walk of Fame are all the stars set into the sidewalk, which run up and down either side of Hollywood Boulevard for almost the length of the entire city of Hollywood proper.

I don't remember seeing Kool-Aid Man's footprints the last time I was at the Chinese, which doesn't mean a whole lot, there are a lot there, and I'm usually getting a chuckle out of seeing the R2-D2 and C-3PO prints again to look any harder than that. :) Maybe when I go catch Harry Potter there this weekend I'll look for the big guy...

IMO, it's not stealing as much as a karmic tie. A while back Gryphon mentioned that Amelia Wil Tesla Sailoon (however you want to spell her last name) may be worked into the story at a later date. (Amelia's from the anime series The Slayers.) I was wondering if Lina Inverse would arrive as well. Well, Aya seems to be UF's version of Lina, altered to fit a "space opera" setting.

When I read this descrioption, I had a HUGE grin, as The Slayers is one of my favorite anime series.
