"Question about B5"
|
First: GREAT STORY!!!!!!!!!!! When I woke up this morning I felt like shit and, who would have guesed, had a fever. (Note to self: Don't drive 24 kilometers through a fucking rain/snow-storm on a motorized bicycle just to get to your evening classes! Physical education isn't _THAT_ important!) But once I got the energy to leave my bed and and turn on my computer I went to eyrie first. (I had this strange feeling as if something was calling me... really!) And there it was SOS6, finally. The rest of the day was much more enjoyable. Thanks! ^^So, now to my question: Who is the chief enginer(sp?) of B5? I doubt it's O'Brien, with Kira we already have a DS9 Character and the second in command is allready a starfleet officer. Is it going to be a Klingon? ---------------- "And what _are_ we dealing with? Little green men!?" "No. Little green blobs in bonded polycarbite-armor!"

In TNG, "Chief" was his rank. In DS9, it was his office. B: Never underestimate a sufficiently experienced Chief. My dad was a navy Chief Petty Officer, and one of the job descriptions of said rank is "Train your lieutenant". In theory, every fresh Ensign outranks the Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. In truth, low-grade officers >don't mess with high-grade Chiefs. Let us re-phrase this... SMART Ensigns shut up and listen. Dumb ones try and stick their oar in and make a mess of things. I've seen it happen to a division; the Senior chief for that division just shut up and let the Ensign try, totaly flumoxing things; until the Combat Systems Officer came down on him like a ton of bricks... On the Ensign. One of the few repeatable comments were "You've got one of my best chiefs... LISTEN TO HIM. He's forgotten more than you'll EVER know!!" In fact, senior NCO's ARE responsible for turning dangerous butter-bars straight from the various institutions into semi responsible officers. ___________________ Vaughn doesn't know I exist. >Poor O'Brien... Star Trek's only -enlisted- man. }:-{D One of the more annoying ST continuity gaffs. On TNG (even in the series finale, "All Good Things...") O'Brien was a commissioned officer the entire way: an ensign at the time of "Encounter at Farpoint" (as established in "All Good Things..."), but Lieutenant (jg) when he first appeared on TNG with the title of Transporter Chief. When Worf's human foster parents first showed up on the Enterprise, Worf's father says something about O'Brien being an enlisted man, even though he's clearly wearing two gold pips (or maybe it was still a gold pip and a black pip; I forget) on his collar, in an officer's uniform, and standing in the same scene is a yeoman or somesuch in an enlisted crew uniform, with no rank indicator that I recall. O'Brien didn't take it well, but didn't say anything; somehow, though, on DS9, he was an enlisted man. -- Sean -- http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! I just thought that you could throw another Organization into the commandstaff of B5 while you were at it. ^_^ But now that I think about it, I can't think of any other person I'd use as B5's Chief engineer. ---------------- "And what _are_ we dealing with? > >International Police Station Babylon Five's chief engineering officer >is, in fact, Lieutenant Commander Miles O'Brien, IPO Space Force. Intertesting to know. Hope you actually *remember* what his rank so that, you don't eventually make an NCO of him :-). Now two other Questions: Who is the Station Chief Medical Officer? (Probaly either Franklin or Bashir, hoping it's the former, even though he is a stim junkie). Did UF's President Clarke get his job the same way his source material counterpart did, ie. by Blowing up one President Luis Santiago?
*Wonders if any stories on that have aired on Network 23* Brad

My guess is the it's still Santiago (or whoever) so that Clarke can blow him up to get the post. That narrows it down substantially... Sorry... what I meant by that was, with Earthdome gathering so much influence in the High Council these days, it's starting to seem as if it doesn't particularly matter who the Federation President is, so as of right now I haven't given him any particular thought. --G. -><- Benjamin D.
