" Convoy"
|
From the Zardon moons on the sixth of June In the year of One-Oh-Eight With a hot-rod Taurus with illegal guns And a Runner haulin' freight We were headin' for Cats and Decepticons And into the heart of the war I said, "All ships, this is the Rubber Duck, Let's hear these freighters roar."'Cause we got a little convoy Soarin' through the night Yeah, we got a little convoy Ain't she a beautiful sight? Come on and join our convoy You Cats get outta our way 'Cause this little runner convoy Gonna blow your ass away Convoy (All ships, this is CFA Rubber Duck, secure from hyperspace. Pig Pen, you wanna back off a bit? Yeah, roger, about fifty clicks. That ion exhaust is getting powerful thick over here.) By the time we got to MacLeod Station We had thirty ships in all But there's gravitic mines along the Blue Nebula And the Cats is wall-to-wall They had Decepticons flyin' wing to wing And our escort was nowhere in sight But I said, "All ships, don't you give me no lip, This Duck's huntin' kitties tonight." 'Cause we got a great big convoy Rocketin' through the night Yeah, we got a big ol' convoy Ain't she a beautiful sight? Come on and join our convoy Cats better start to pray 'Cause we got a big ol' Convoy And you're sittin' in our way Convoy (All ships, this is the Rubber Duck. Good shootin'. Come back, Pig Pen? Negative, repeat negative, Pig Pen, in fact why don't you fall back another ten clicks until you get that reactor leak fixed. Jesus Christ.) Well, we rolled through that Kilrah barrier fleet Like a bandersnatch on grass Blew up about a dozen Cat destroyers And showed the Deceps our ass By the time we hit McAuliffe space Those kitties had gotten smart They'd deployed half a dozen Sivar carriers And the Emperor's personal guard There's Gralthi and Jalthi and Dralthi and worse And ships of every size Assault transports jam-packed with Cats, And the Deceps filled the skies Well, we shot that line and dove for the soup In a hundred-ship smuggling raid Plus eleven long-haired Jesus freaks Flyin' a Condor from Chevrolet... (Rubber Duck to Sodbuster, come back... Sodbuster, clutch down and fall that Condor in behind that suicide jockey, will ya? Yeah, he's haulin' thermite, and he needs all the help he can get.) Well, we dropped our loads and deployed our troops And prepared to recross the line I could see the orbits were lined with Cats And we'd just run outta time I said, "Pig Pen, I'm gonna drop this hammer 'Cause they ain't takin' me on soil," And we won that race for hyperspace Shoutin' "Let those smugglers roll," 10-4 'Cause we got a mighty convoy Blastin' through the night Yeah, we got a mighty convoy Better not give us a fight Come on and join our convoy Finest thing you'll ever see Gonna roll this fuckin' convoy Across those Kilrathi Convoy (Allied command, this is the Rubber Duck. Mission accomplished.) Convoy (Negative casualties, those kitties never knew what hit 'em.) Convoy (What's next on the agenda, if you don't mind sayin'?) Convoy (KILRAH? You don't think small, do you? Well, we gonna) Convoy (see you at the rendezvous. This here's CFA Rubber Duck... we gone, bye-bye.) Cool.^^ Which song is it based on? My first guess was In The Year 2525 but I'm not so sure anymore. (How sure would you be at around 4:00 am?) Or did you make this up completely yourself?---------------- "And what _are_ we dealing with? Little green men!?" "No. Little green blobs in bonded polycarbite-armor!" |

'course, the mention of Decepticons among the Kilrathi forces in the Freespacer version of Convoy reminds me that the Japanese name for Autobot (well, in Japan they're called Cybertrons, the planet's name being "Sabretron") leader Optimus Prime (actually, it's the name for all Cybertron leaders in the Japanese version) is Convoy. "We got a great big Convoy, ain't he a beautiful sight?" Cracks me up whenever I watch my Car Robots DVDs... --G. -><- Benjamin D. But then again , the song was hilarious . All hail the Red Wizard ! -Griever "No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be; Am an attendant lord, one that will do To swell a progress, start a scene or two, Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool, Deferential, glad to be of use, Politic, cautious, and meticulous; Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse; At times, indeed, almost ridiculous-- Almost, at times, the Fool."

LAST EDITED ON Nov-10-01 AT 11:19 PM (EST) A parody of the song by C. W. McCall Notes about the song: The 'year of One-oh-Eight' means 2108, the height of the Sixth Great Kilrathi War, in which Decepticons fought as mercenary allies of the Kilrathi. The Kilrathi advance has finally been halted, but pushing them back again is proving very difficult, and the Kilrathi are not breaking. The Taurus medium freighter is better known as the 'Tarsus' or 'Big Toe.' The stock version is awful, and the stock-modified not much better, but with some industrial-strength re-engineering even that frame can be made into a runner. The 'illegal guns' refers not to cargo but to defensive armament exceeding the maximum allowed by the United Galactica on civilian ships operating in the Core Sectors. The capital-R Runner refers to a CR-90 corvette in the standard 'Blockade Runner' modification, with stronger engines and most of its internal space converted to cargo holds. Cats, of course, is derogatory slang for Kilrathi. MacLeod Station lies nearly in the center of Enigma Sector, about thirty light-years from the pre-war Kilrathi frontier. It lies close to the Blue Nebula, which the Kilrathi had fortified as a natural space barrier against Galactica ships. You never, ever want to see a stoned bandersnatch. McAuliffe is possibly Earth's most famous colony; it has been fought over, taken, retaken, surrendered, siezed, etc. more times than any other planet since the fall of Atlantis. McAuliffe, like many other captured Galactica worlds, recieved infrequent smuggling runs from the Allied forces throughout the war to continue a guerilla war against the Kilrathi invaders. Sivar is the name of the supreme Kilrathi wargod, their largest class of carriers, and their priesthood's flagship (not a carrier). Gralthi, Jalthi, and Dralthi are all Kilrathi starfighter types. The Condor is Chevrolet's one effort to build a personal FTL spaceship, and is historically notable for being the first hypership with a clutch and an 8-ball stick shift standard. Dropping the hammer is, in smuggler terms, a mixed metaphor, combining the Earth metaphor of 'flooring the gas pedal' and the Corellian metaphor of 'smashing the competition flat.' Kilrah was raided later in the war, but not by CFA Rubber Duck. The current whereabouts of CFA Rubber Duck are unknown... >>>The current whereabouts of CFA Rubber Duck are unknown... >> >>Rumor has it they took the ship in for a total overhaul... > >WTF?! Where in Skuld's name did that come from?! From the diseased mind of yours truly and a starving artist who goes by the name DarkSide (not Darksied. To my knowledge he isn't the ruler of a Jack Kirby world. Of course, I could be wrong). >>Mr. Fnord, it's a long story. > >So start telling it already. I gotta hear this one... Okay, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away... Wait, you've heard that one, haven't you? Right. Skip the cheesy intro; onward. A few years ago, on a small and insignificant Trek MOO, some friends of mine banded together and decided to become a group of Klingon pirates. They managed to cajole the admins into giving them a Bird-of-Prey, and they intended to name it Black Star. Note carefully the word "intended." Y'see, when they wrote the name out in thlIngan (or however you spell it), they typoed. Instead of Black Star, they got Explain Star. And no amount of begging would get the admins to fix their error. So, instead of becoming fierce pirates preying on the Federation, they ended up becoming something along the lines of a roving comic relief, picking up a bunch of strange characters (like Stan, a Caitian salesman with the Radioactive Suit) and generally having a good time. About the same time, I was looking for a roving comic relief for some of my projects, and the crew of the good 'ol Explain Star happened to be available. I decided that bringing Klingons into the gameworld would be too disruptive, so we had to find a new ship. I don't remember exactly why the rubber duck was chosen, but I do know that large amounts of beer was involved. In any case, the duck-ship became a hit with the players, and DS was inspired to draw that image. And the rest is history. http://www.jihad.net/ju25/jihad.html has the IC version of the Explain Star's history (have to scroll down a bit though, sorry.) http://darkside.sandwich.net/images/es-logo.gifx (pull x to view picture) is the ship's logo. I need to get this painted on the back of a leather jacket someday. :) Mr. Fnord, somebody with too much time on his hands. -- "'Explain all that,' said the Mock Turtle. 'No, no! >The 'year of One-oh-Eight' means 2108 >The current whereabouts of CFA Rubber Duck are unknown... Shouldn't that be CFA Black Duck? Rubber Duck was his callsign (or whatever truckers call it) and the truck was named Black Duck. IIRC. Anyway. *The 'Wonder is flying through an asteroid field, with Utena as pilot.* CORWIN: You're doing this very good for somebody who just got her pilotlicense. UTENA: Thanks. ... Hey, what's that? CORWIN: What? UTENA: I just saw something on that big one over there. CORWIN: I'll check the sensors. ... Hmm. Looks like there's some ship. A Taurus. Energy systems are down and now lifesigns. Bring us closer to it, I can't see a name on the hull from here. UTENA: Okay. ... CORWIN: By Grandpa's beard!!! UTENA: What!? CORWIN: It's the _BLACK DUCK_!!!! The ship of Rubber Duck, one of the best blockade runners back in the 2100s! *The 'Wonder docks with the 'Duck and Utena and corwin go onboard the 'Duck. All they find is Rubber Duck's corpse and a sheet of paper on which is written: "Congratulations! You've found the Duck, you can keep it. But treat her right or I'll come back and haunt you. And if you put her in a museum I'll bring some of my friends along so they can haunt you, too! -Rubber Duck* And that is how Utena got her own ship. ^_^

Err , is that really a Taurus ? I think it may have looked a little different(bulkier and stuff) ... but then again , I haven't played Privateer in a loooooong while , and hated the Taurus more than anything else , so I could be wrong.

>Err , is that really a Taurus ? That's a Tarsus, not a Taurus. A Taurus is a car. And I do agree that Utena would not willing pilot a Tarsus, she'll most likely end up with something along the lines of a YT-1300 series. --Rod.H who pilots a Centurion in Privateer, but wouldn't mind a nice Cap-ship with all the trimmings. |

>>Err , is that really a Taurus ? > >That's a Tarsus, not a Taurus. A Taurus is a car. It should be noted that, in UF continuity, the term 'Tarsus' is a -nickname- for that ship, and Taurus is the actual model name. (Now if I could only remember what "Convoy" sounded like...) And for his next trick, Redneck will translate "Wolf Creek Pass" to UF... "We woke up the chickens."
