"The Chief's car in Locard's"

I mentioned elsewhere, long ago, that the car the Chief is shown driving back in Locard's Exchange is a 1989 Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R, primarily because I came to love it so in the original Gran Turismo. At the time, I couldn't find a good picture of the actual car, and had to make do, when trying to explain it to people who hadn't seen the game, with these slightly blurry, rather dark screencaps:

Well, since then, the good people at the wikipedia have solved that problem for me. If you head over to their page on the Skyline, you'll see a couple of pics of the R32 GT-R off to the right. The lower of the two, the one showing the car indoors, is a perfect shot. Two perfect shots, actually, since if you click through to its dedicated image page (which I can't link directly because wikipedia identifies it as an image file, so DCF diligently tries to inline it), you'll find a link to another shot of the back of the same car. It's even the right color. Basically, that is the car that appears in Locard's Exchange (and again in Forward Momentum).

Now! Here is a thing that pleases me inordinately: Nissan have brought back the GT-R, though it's officially no longer part of the Skyline series, and they'll be selling it in the US for the first time. Actually, that's not the part that pleases me inordinately. It's not like I'll be buying one, after all. The part that pleases me inordinately is that, if you go to the GT-R official website and play with the (still quite rudimentary) configurator, you'll discover that they plan to offer it in that same classic R32 gunmetal grey (it's officially called Gun Metallic).

Nice.

Not a bad car at all.

The cars of today don't quite have the "cool" look that a lot of cars in the 1980s had. The 80s Toyota MR2 and Honda Preludes looked pretty cool, if you ask me.
