"Annotations: NXE 2:1"

[43] I think there was supposed to be a date here. Without it, it's kind of a nonsensical thing for Gendou to say.

[134] Grendel's name is a little different from those of the other Evangelions, since Grendel is a monster (the one from the Old English epic poem Beowulf), not a demon. But then, Grendel itself is a little different from the other Evangelions.

[195] This is Councilman Kiel, who, thanks to his age relative to the series' production date and the strange visor he wears in the few scenes where he appears, always makes me think that he's really the Evangelion version of Scott "Cyclops" Summers.

[237] This indicates either that Misato had seen The Right Stuff before and knows that DJ has as well, or, more likely, that they've watched it together.

[325] No such law has come to pass, of course, but other, equally well-meaning, equally stupid, equally ineffectual matters of national educational policy have. But that's a rant for another place and time.

[444] You may think you recognize that name...

[478] ... and you'd be right. It's amazing how many people automatically assumed Amy and her friends would be turning into superheroes, though. I mean, that kind of thing might work out in UF, but here? No, I just needed a few people to populate a school, and an outside-Project-EVA friend for DJ, and I found them there. That's all.

[581] Yes, it's Touji Suzuhara. Why does he have an Americanized name? Because in NXE, obviously, he's an American. Simple as that!

[656] Ditto for Kensuke Aida, and well, his name's transformation was pretty simple.

[977] This is actually not that impressive. Humans share that much of their DNA profile with chimpanzees.

[997] Kevin's name is another artifact of the setting change to Worcester, though it won't be entirely apparent for some time that he's based on Kaoru Nagisa.

[1039] Kevin's been watching Rei for some time, knowing what she is, but also that she's not yet ready to find out.

[1235] A character from the original Tomb Raider - sort of the evil (or at least amoral) anti-Lara. DJ's had a few run-ins with him pre-NXE.

[1245] Not funny, perhaps, but DJ actually believed it was true, in a metaphorical sort of way. Even back then he was half-convinced that Jon was a manufactured life form.

[1288] An actual Irish pub on Park Avenue in Worcester. For many years it has had a banner hanging outside advertising Gaelic lessons.
