"Annotations: NXE 2:3"

[102] Stargate was a 1980s Atari arcade game, the sequel to the famous Defender. It was nearly impossible. Legend has it that was because the prototype had coincidentally been put in an arcade frequented by a world Defender champion, and, as such, kept getting beaten, causing the developers to ramp up the difficulty further and further, until the game was nearly unplayable by normal persons.

[186] A real software developer, the creator of Tempest 2000, who appears by gracious consent.

[188] Creator of the original Defender and Robotron: 2084, among other great Elder Days games.

[429] AG Systems comes from the WipeOut series of video games, in which it's one of the four main manufacturers of the anti-gravity vehicles used by the racers.

[767] YaK is pretty close to the truth, given that Jet Alone's name is a riff on Jet Jaguar, the robot co-star of Godzilla vs. Megalon. Jet Jaguar was built by an eccentric inventor, though, he had no connection to the JSDF.

[895] I do believe he's getting to her a bit. And, ironically, he's not even really trying; he still believes she genuinely dislikes him.

[982] We'll hear more about this project later.

[1145] Named for arch-hacker Kevin Flynn of TRON fame, of course.

[1304] One of the hardest damn Webs in Tempest 2000, able to make hardcore gamers groan in anticipated pain when it appeared.

[1317] But not as hard as this one.

[1322] A phrase pulled from a YaK blog post about, if memory serves, the PlayStation remake of Robotron: 2084.

[1530] Not, as Rei initially suspects, from some outside source.
