"Hey hey. Now who the hell AM I?"
|
Hello all, I just found out about this thing, and due to my drug-like addiction to Eyrie Unlimited, I had to get on here and see what all the hubub was. Seems I'm an odd man out, tho. I'm from Texas (kind of). I'm in Texas, too. Funny how things work out. Anyhoo, I have to admit I read you guy's stuff, and that I don't know why, because I write original fiction and science fiction (when I write) and it's kind of weird to see a story pieced together from large chunks of other stories, as opposed to small chunks of other stories. So there's a good question for you Gryph, zoner. Why not write original fiction? You could easily do it, I bet. Oh, and my sig will change form time to time, featuring quotes from my myriad premier science fiction epic thingy, Moonlight Symphony. I wanted to change the name, but things that stick stick. -D "Check out that fine lookin' sheath!" -Carter Robinson, Moonlight Symphony: First Contact 2032 Sheath: slang - woman, girl, babe, etc. |

World building is the worst part, but I got a little help from the 2025 report. Its the USAF saying "hey smart scientist guys, what will the future be like?" The best part is the alternate futures subheading. I made a world where it shifted from Khanian Confederacy to Gulliver's Travels near 2022 or so. It's all so modular, but its also very near future. Of ocurse, in the distant future, you just make up whatever you want, so you don't need any help anyways. methinks the address is...http://www.au.af.mil/au/2025/ no, I don't think you are really going to check it out in earnest, but now you can't say I didn't tell you. Plus its longer than the bible in raw form. Stick to only a couple of sections. Gryph, sometime I'll have to pitch MS to you for kicks. I've worked it for a year and the art is coming along nicely. Im not going to cry if you are too busy, it would just be cool. Kind of like ICEEs. They are very cool. Actually, it occurs to me that I should amend my previous statement. In the past week or so, I have had an idea occur to me for a story that wouldn't actually be a fanfiction of anything in particular, though it is, admittedly, pretty heavily influenced by a few things. I don't know if anything will ever come of it, and I doubt I'd be all that interested in pursuing publication even then, but I shouldn't have just said "no ideas". --G. -><- Benjamin D. Yeah, it is misogynistic. The focus is the slang, I guess. I suppose all I meant is that, with an original fiction work, it would be easier to appeal to a wider group of people. >>I suppose all I meant is that, with an original fiction work, it would >>be easier to appeal to a wider group of people. > >Yes, well... I'm not entirely sure I want to appeal to a wider >group of people. Okay, this brings up a question. Now, we all know that Eyrie is, by anime fanfic standards wildly, amazingly popular, but what does that translate to? Are there any numbers out there on how many hits this site gets in a week? day? year? Prior to the opening of the forum (which has, last I looked well over a hundred members in three weeks or so of being open), how much fan mail did Gryph and co. get on a regular basis? (As so many other people have said, it's hard to figure out what to write to these people without sounding like a dribbling fanboy... which, admittedly, I am... and thus, while I know from personal experience the power of fanmail, I never actually sat down and wrote a fan letter to the EPU crew.) -- Sean -- http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! My reason for not writing is that I figured that EPU got enough mail from drooling fanboys. Now, if I had control of the universe, I'd be tempted to drop a small fortune on Gryphon and Megazone, resulting in their being able to write full-time for somewhere between six months and the rest of their lives. Since I can't do that, I settle for not e-mailing them for anything short of, "Aaaaaa! Eyrie-productions.com has disappeared from the net! AAAAA!" Or something like that. Peter Eng |

>Good reason. My reason for not writing is that I figured that EPU got >enough mail from drooling fanboys.I'm about 95.6% sure I'm the cause of the "This universe is now closed" disclaimer at the bottom of the UF page after making Gryphon horribly uncomfortable asking him if there was any kind of submission criteria. Which really wasn't my intent, honest! :) It was just mild curiosity, really, and I think it was probably a good move to close it off like that anyway. The integrity of the series has to come first. >Now, if I had control of the >universe, I'd be tempted to drop a small fortune on Gryphon and >Megazone, resulting in their being able to write full-time for >somewhere between six months and the rest of their lives. Heh, I always imagined producing an animated series based on UF (yes I would fight off my urge to make it live action when it comes to UF--though I still think a live action Knight Sabres movie would kick ass) had I the limitless resources to see it done right and pay off pretty much everyone for the rights to, uhm, well, everything. ------------------------------ "You're a louse, Roger Smith." ------------------------------ Chad Collier Digital Bitch J. If Hollywood is going into girls-in-groups and >>girls-kicking-butt, a live-action BGC would be right up their alley... <rant> Drew Barrymore ruined what could have been a fun movie for Charlie's Angels with the whole 'no guns' thing. While in a way I admire that, the combination of that and a one-named director (McG?!? Some idjit named McG is making movies and I'm back here pushing pixels? Have a taste of my McFist...) who basically admitted that he made a string of music videos and tied them together (along with free admission that he aped Matrix for the fight stuff) brought the whole house of cards down. </rant> (No offense to MegaZone about the one named thing. But if Tarsem does end up making the Hellblazer movie and makes Constatine American like he says he wants to, I'm going to get violent.) >Yeah, but doing the Knight Saber's right would require a budget, and >even then they probably would choose to make them fight cg insect >things instead of giving them appropriate power armor. Oh yes, a beautiful, huge, massive budget. I'd build huge chunks of city to destroy, and massive animatronic Stan Winston designed boomers. I'd Jim Cameron out on it in a big way. Am I dreaming? You betcha! But fortune comes suddenly out here, so it's good to have all the impossible bits ready just in case. ;) >Stupid Starship Troopers. grumble. Probably >just read the back of the book to get their stupid plot. mutter. >guessed about the names... I found the most fascinating thing about that was how all of the anti-fascist message of the book (that I know of, as I haven't read it, but I know the general idea of it) just sort of goes away in the movie. Ahhh, Paul, you old nut... He did give us a jackbooted SS Doogie Howser for our troubles, and for some reason he looked so comfortable in that costume. And from a strictly effects standpoint, the bugs looked really good. But I do have a knack for shutting off large portions of my brain when needs be to still enjoy at least watching something, even if it didn't work for Mission to Mars. ------------------------------ Chad Collier--note to self: don't write posts immediatly after waking up, you tend to ramble...
