They end up piling up in my bank (on various alts, usually) until I either unload them at fire-sale prices on the Exchange or obtain some keys and pop them open. (Buying them with EC, or converting dilithium to Zen, is the usual way.)

This is what is commonly known as "money for old rope".

I should do this instead of discarding them as annoying...

But then where would I keep all my Tribbles? There isn't always a Klingon ship around to beam them to.

I know I've said this before, though not sure I said it here on this forum. The lockboxes aren't even worth 4 EC. They're worth -nothing-. They're a sucker trap, designed to make you think you're already carrying this awesome loot and you just need a key to get it. That's BS. The mechanics would be exactly the same if you found keys and had to buy the boxes. The keys are the only half worth -anything-. And then, of course, they don't publish the actual percentages for lockbox rewards.

Yeah, I've bought some keys. And they were a waste, every one. So easy to fritter away so much cash...

Lobi.

Also, while I'm still at a net loss overall, I did once turn a profit on a specific transaction by buying a master key off the Exchange, using it to open a Voth lock box, and selling the Voth antiproton beam array I got out of it for over twice what I'd paid for the key.

   Agree.

1. Grind dilithium.
2. Convert to Zen.
3. Buy keys with converted Zen.
4. Sell keys on exchange, the price is getting insane (they used to go for about 1 million EC, now up to 2.5 mil).
5. ???
6. Profit
