"Vaguely NXE Related Things..."

   Just some recent tidbits in movies and TV going on nowadays, that I thought might interest both the Eyrien writers and the NXE cast. Not actually sure if this is the proper forum, so bear with me. ^^;

Tomb Raider Movie: The gripping story of DJ's mum. They got an appropriate actress to play her, appearance wise, and some of the effects look smooth. Granted, I wasn't to hot with the game series myself, so anything would be an improvement...

Season Finale of X-Files: Scully gives birth to her child. Will she call it Jon?
(Sorry...)

Atlantis: I'm kinda wondering what the Eyrie writers make of Disney's Secret of Blue Water. I remember Ben was a fellow fan of Nadia...

And, that's my random thoughts for now, later.

Ben: Did you receive my Jon Ellison pic from a while ago, or did that get fragged when your server went down?

Personally, I don't think she's very well-cast, but then that's probably because I have my own mental image of what she ought to look like, and it doesn't look like the actress they chose. Not their fault, I suppose.

I haven't been to an animated Disney film since "101 Dalmatians" when I was nine, and I'm not planning to start again now.

Doesn't ring any bells - must have gotten lost in the Great Renumbering Fuckup.

Well, with a game driven by polygonal booty (IMO), you use what you can work
with. This summer looks to a wide assortment of movie blockbuster weirdness,
what with Atlantis below, and the recently released Pearl Harbor ("Hey! You got
your Titanic in my Saving Private Ryan!")

That may well be a good call with this one. We've got main hero Milo looking
for all the world like a grown up Jean, and the Atlantian girl Kida, bearing
a not so slight resemblence to Nadia, only with long white hair and weilding
a spear (Princess Nadioke, if ya will...)

An amusing thought, but I think the X-Philes would finally declare enough enough and storm Vancouver searching for Chris Carter's head had Scully named her son anything other than William. (If you don't watch XF, I'm not going to bother explaining to you why. But I personally thought enough was enough after "Hollywood A.D.")

>Atlantis:

"Tarzan" was, in a number of ways, a more accurate representation of the ERB character than anything else produced after Burroughs' death (including Legend of Greystoke, even though that WAS a damn good Tarzan movie), modernization aside. But Disney movies in general I'm not too hot on. Aladdin was fun as hell, Beauty and the Beast was very good, The Lion King was one of the best American animated films ever made, but nothing else they've done in YEARS has been really worth it. I mean, the stuff isn't *bad*, but it's just not innovative or anything new. I don't think I'm going to bother seeing Atlantis unless I take my nephew to it or something.

The Emperor's New Groove was hillarious. Sure, it probably isn't going to be a 'classic', but it was still a fun movie.

Speaking of fun movies, Shrek had me fscking howling.

"Do you know the muffin man?"
"The muffin man?"
"The muffin man."
"Yes, I know the muffin man. Who lives on Drury Lane?"

Oh my god that's a fun movie...

I'd say the Shrek was meant more for the parents than the kids anyway. Most of the jokes went right over the little kiddies' heads.

Not the showing I went to. There was a kid behind me who was calling out dialog before characters said it. And it wasn't in the 'I've seen this 5 times this weekend' way, but in that 'I'm so flipping bored and this is just too easy' way. Not a good sign when the eight year old is one step ahead of your screenwriter.

It had it's moments, but it's a long way from anything Pixar has put out, and it's even a long way from Antz, PDI/Dreamworks' last cgi film. And personally, I found most of the character design annoying. But golly aren't their hair shaders nice. I think I'll go watch the Monsters Inc. trailer again...

And I understand that they've been working on it for 4 years, and that the joke was probably written in when it was fresh, but I swear to any god that applies if I see another Matrix gag I'm going to lose my mind.

It was different from what Pixar has done. I certainly thought it was funnier than A Bug's Life for example.

I had the opposite feeling, I liked the designs. I really rather liked Princess Fiona's design. It looked well rendered.

Monsters Inc. looks amusing.

You've probably seen more films than I have - I liked the joke, but I haven't seen very many Matrix gags.

My wife and I went to that one with considerable trepidation. The pre-release buzz I'd heard said that the Disney animators who made it weren't all that happy with it, but the commercials looked considerably better than I expected. So we took the risk, and it paid off nicely. Peggy and I have summed it up for friends as, "Disney makes a full-length classic Warner Brothers cartoon".

>Speaking of fun movies, Shrek had me fscking howling.

Me, too, but now I have to live with people going, "You're kidding!" when I tell them my name. I even had one guy suggest I change it because of the movie. (For those who don't realize it, "Schroeck" is pronounced "shrek". Means "horror" in German -- great name for an ogre, no?)

That it is; that it is.

Hey - I've been saying that since I saw it. Yeah, that's exactly what it was - especially the gag with the map and dotted lines. And when party 2 got there ahead of party 1 and couldn't explain how - it felt like something out of Animaniacs.

A very different Disney movie.
