"Ghostbusters: Afterlife"
|
LAST EDITED ON Dec-09-19 AT 04:50 PM (EST) So, yeah, Sony just dropped the first trailer for a new Ghostbusters movie I had no idea they were even making. It appears to be doing the Godzilla 1985 thing and slotting in as a sequel to the original movie. I'm not sure if Ghostbusters 2 happened in its continuity (a few signs in the trailer suggest not), but it's definitely not in the Kelvin timeline, as it were.I am guardedly hopeful, as much as anyone who's been burned as many times as I have by 21st-century nostalgia for 1980s IPs can be based on two and a half minutes of trailer. I mean, if nothing else, it's definitely not a remake, and that means I'm at least interested in it. --G. "New York in the '80s? Was like The Walking Dead." -><- Benjamin D. Put me in the "guardedly optimistic" camp as well, particularly after the bait-and-switch that was that first trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot. To me, the whole "30 years ago..." portion of that trailer remains one of the biggest insults to the fandom. If you're selling a reboot of a loved franchise, then be upfront that its a reboot, don't tease the fans by suggesting that they're finally getting the sequel they've waited decades for. As for Afterlife, it does look as though they're trying to give us a worthwhile film, if not the sequel that Murray kept delaying until Ramis shuffled off his mortal coil. I saw a comparison made between this trailer and that first trailer for The Force Awakens years ago: Numerous nods to nostalgia, a new cast of characters tied to the original in some way, and ending the trailer on those characters driving around an iconic vehicle (Falcon in TFA, Ecto 1 here) to cause fans to jump out of their seats. So I'm interested, but I'm gonna wait to see more trailers to see if where they're going with this is something I'm interested in watching. -------------------------- CdrMike, Overwatch Reject "You know, the world could always use more heroes." - Tracer, Overwatch |
