I'm guessing that's the Steampunk/Macross crashing a hundred or so years earlier story idea that popped up in your LJ? Which appeals to me... but then, a UF restart I could reread without wincing wins me over.

Edit: I voted for B-Term, but it seems to tell me I've already voted and won't add my vote.

I figured the base concept was glarkable from the phrasing, but yeah - Her Britannic Majesty's Super Sky-Fortress Macross is an idea that popped into my head the other day, when I realized that the already cool premise of Super Dimension Fortress Macross could be made even more awesome just by messing with the date in the setup line.

In 1879, a gigantic alien spacecraft crash-landed on an island in the Pacific...

Oh, what the heck. I went ahead and voted for the Victorian Macross. But you have _got_ to include an aristocratic adventuress in whatever story you end up doing. Wouldn't be a Victorian adventure story if you didn't. :)

I voted for the Sky-Fortress simply because I like weird steampunk analogues. I even found a pic of a steampunk lightsaber, on another board.

Well, presumably that would be Lady Lisa Hayes, daughter of Admiral Donald "Dreadnaught" Hayes, 3rd Viscount Barrow, GCB, RN.

This is a horrible choice to have to make. *frets indecisively*

I think I'm going to have to go with Victorian Macross, though, because I think you'd have a lot of fun with it and it's such a neat idea.

And in grand EPU style, it will probably incorporate elements from just about every Victorian high-adventure story... <grin>

My vote as well, breaking what I am sure was a momentary 50-50 tie.

I find it interesting that the votes are split down the middle after so long..
does this mean we are going to see a rewrite of CORE 1 in the victorian age? :P kidding :P

Anyways I voted for B-term a while back... although now i'm curious about a victorian SDF crew :O

I went with B-Term, myself. If only because I'm curious what the WDF would think of a giant spaceship which transforms into a humanoid configuration for no conceivably logical purpose or enhanced function beyond "Oh, holy crap, it's a giant robot!" and delivering the mother of all sucker punches.

Owing to some missing equipment, the Macross has to transform that way in order to use its main armament.

Yeah, namely her fold engines. Disappeared when she did her first (and only) fold from Earth to a point just past Pluto. Good example of why you don't try folding in a gravity well, especially in a hurry. But since the engines disappeared, the connection between the reaction furnaces and the main gun was severed. About the same time, they realized the Macross was modular, so they could bridge the connection by reconfiguring the ship into its "attack mode."

This was, for those who can remember, brought up by Gryphon as a joke in The Long Road, where he asks over the com if the engines are still there after the SDF-17's first fold.

"Holy crap, it's a giant robot!" is sufficient reason.

My vote went to Her Britannic Majesty's &c., but the vote is a bit of a dodge. I figure that the UF story has a higher probability of being written regardless of whether I vote for it, simply because it's a UF story.

Oddly, the vibe I got from the pool was more Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow than some variant on Horatio Hornblower but hey, British Macross sounds cool.

May I make a small fan plea? Ditch Lynn Minmay's whinny ass ways. Make her more like Mina Harker or some sort of interesting British fem-fatale like Haggard's She or Doyle's Irene Adler (yeah, I know she's really eduardian), I would appreciate it. I admit, if LM vodoo dolls had been given out back in the 80's I would have punctured mine to bits.

<grin> Besides, there's soo many cooler possibilities than using lame characters like Lynn (or what's his name - the one that dies for no good reason - the blond pilot dude?). I mean, it's an AU Macross, which means you can cool people like the Doctor or Edison Bell show up. I think they'd fit nicely in with the steam-punk/Zentradi mix.

cheers,

Well, you'd have trouble ditching Lynn completely--the one-clueless-guy-and-two-different girls thing is a classic. But you'd have to either make her exactly the same (ew) or change her completely (yay) to make it work. I'm playing Enchanted Arms now, and I gotta admit, the similarities are amusing.

Is there any way I can change my vote?

The more I think about it, the more I think I'd rather see victorian Macross rather than a rewrite of Core 1. After all, we've already seen Core 1, and while seeing it through a new lens would be interesting, a Victorian take on Macross would be both interesting and new.

Of course, I'm not going to object to either, or even both... :)

Option C, by the way, is, "What does my opinion matter, anyhow? Write what you want. B-Term, or the Victorian variation, or paying copy if you have something on those lines."

Well, okay - I'd be bothered if you started writing bad poetry, or bad anything, really - but that's not especially likely.
