"Annotations: NXE 3:3"

[8] Taken from the title of a 1954 book by Aldous Huxley (most famous as the author of Brave New World), which in turn drew its title from a line by William Blake: ""If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite." Huxley's book described his experiments with mescaline. (The rock band The Doors took their name from the same book.)

[107] Captain Kirk - certainly one of DJ's spiritual ancestors - delivers a similar line to a Federation functionary in "The Trouble With Tribbles".

[740] FRG = the Federal Republic of Germany.

[782] This, more than anything, proves that the Anderson family just can't catch a break.

[1135] No idea.

[1225] "Rei" is Japanese for "Zero"; "Ichi" is Japanese for "One". And so on.

[1233] The Ellison brothers are not here; they were created and stored at another SEELE facility.

[1329] The Mutons were the shock troops of the alien invaders in X-COM: UFO Defense. They had no special powers and were not terribly bright, but were insanely tough, strong, fast-moving infantry soldiers.

[1819] This trailer parodies one of the earliest OVAs to be translated to English at the start of the big anime boom of the early 1990s, Metal Skin Panic! MADOX-01. Truss made a hilarious poster for it which turned up on T-shirts we made for Katsucon one year.

May I say here, as an aside, how glad I am that you didn't use the Chryssalids? I hated those things. Every time I'd even _glimpse_ one on a terror mission, I'd lob a blaster bomb at it, and if any civilian happened to be in the vicinity, that was just too bad; better, actually, to go up in a clean blast than to be turned into a Zombie, is how I looked at it.

Lover of fiddly and only faintly relevant background detail
