AND WHEREAS SARGE has so far demonstrated himself to be completely hopeless at carrying out his duties in a manner that is not annoying and/or intrusive to KANAME;
AND WHEREAS the only viable alternative appears to be an all-out resort to law enforcement;
AND WHEREAS KANAME is loath to invoke this option in light of SARGE's evident sincerity in his purpose, the verified legitimacy of his credentials, and the fact that he's really kind of cute for a crazy army dude strange help is better than no help at all in this crazy mixed-up galaxy;
NOW, THEREFORE, SARGE and KANAME (hereinafter the PARTIES) do agree and undertake the following PROTOCOL to govern his interactions with her. This PROTOCOL consists of ten main points, to wit:
1) SARGE shall be permitted to install one (1) acoustic monitoring device and one (1) biometric sensor in KANAME'S on-campus living quarters (room 401, Hannibal Hamlin Hall), as well as no more than three (3) audiovisual surveillance devices to monitor the approaches to said quarters (but UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES the interior of same).
2) These devices shall operate in PASSIVE ACQUISITION MODE and trigger an alert in SARGE'S quarters, on his mobile communications device, or in such other manner as he considers will provide him sufficient tactical warning, ONLY in the event that an unauthorized intruder or unexpected high-energy event takes place.
3) These devices shall make NO RECORD of their readings to be archived by SARGE or his superiors, their client(s) etc.
4) SARGE shall have physical access to these devices in order to conduct maintenance and/or repair operations, but ONLY with proper advance notice and at a reasonable time of day.
5) SARGE shall maintain in his own living quarters one (1) laser microphone as a backup measure. This device shall ONLY be used if the acoustic monitor specified in Article 1) is out of commission, and ONLY until said monitor can be repaired or replaced as per Article 4).
6) SARGE shall undertake to keep a personal watch over KANAME'S personal space while she is not in her room. This personal watch shall be conducted more carefully than it bloody well has been to date with as much care as possible not to invade KANAME'S personal space in the process.
7) At mealtimes, SARGE will be permitted to sit at KANAME'S table in the dining commons as long as he behaves himself.
8) KANAME shall undertake not to attempt to "ditch" or otherwise elude or frustrate the efforts of SARGE to protect her as long as he maintains a good-faith effort to abide by Articles 1) through 7) above.
9) In the event of conflicting interpretations or other disputes over the applicability or enforcement of this PROTOCOL, the PARTIES agree to refer the matter to President Boba Fett of the Institute Duelists' Society, or such agents as he may see fit to deputize, for investigation, mediation, and/or arbitration.
10) Should SARGE repeatedly or grievously transgress this PROTOCOL, KANAME reserves the option to invoke the law enforcement response mentioned in the preamble and cause SARGE'S ejection from the Institute as well as possible further measures as prescribed by law.
Copies of this PROTOCOL will be filed with the Institute Duelists' Society and the DSM Campus Security Service, as well as the Resident Advisors designated to the PARTIES' residence floors and the House Guides of Hannibal Hamlin and Dennis Blair Halls.
This PROTOCOL takes effect immediately and will be in force until such time as either PARTY leaves the Institute with an expectation of being away for 30 days or more. If both PARTIES agree, it may be extended to cover future school years.
This PROTOCOL is not valid outside the legal jurisdiction of the B'hava'el system.
