"Start Sequence"
|
Sorry about the title. One of my J-Pop MP3s starts off with that particular phrase, and for some perverse reason RealJukebox decided to play it every three songs despite being set on "Random" and having 200 songs to pick out from. Ahem. I thought that I'd start off something I call "Best Moments from Symphony No. 1". I thought I'd hold off until Gryphon puts out Pavane for a Dead Princess, but then I thought, what the heck. So, out of all seven movements, six entr'actes, one intermezzo, and one interlude, I came up with... Okay, so the list isn't finalized, so I can't really state a number. And I'm starting to sound silly, so I think I'll just put up the damn list. Please understand that this is purely my own personal list, so it may (will, actually) differ from yours. In no particular order, they are: 1. Corwin blundering into Morgan 413 and getting Juri's jacket wrapped around his head at the end of Duelists of the Rose 2. Dorothy's observation of her bed, also in Duelists 3. Utena's speech to the Administrative Review Panel for the proposal for the foundation of the Institute Duelists' Society, still in Duelists 4. Again in Duelists: "Oh, we can fix that," said Zoner. He took back the red WDF Credit Union card, slid it into a slot on a small PDA-type device, made a few adjustments with a stylus, and handed the card back after it beeped, saying, "There. Now you're well-endowed." There was a brief, awkward pause. Juri raised an eyebrow. "You have a lot of money," said Zoner, his expression wooden.
5. The entirety of Interlude at Bancroft Tower No. 1 in D Minor 6. Corwin's exploits in Daggerdisc in Hunted Rose 7. The Ohtori Academy Theater Club's antics in Ohtori Academy Spring Semester Blues 8. Saionji and Miki's speech in the restaurant at the top of the CN Tower in Hogtown Rhapsody 9. The Crunch & Munch vendor's antics in the Toronto Ice Arena, also in Hogtown 10. Again from Hogtown, from Dorothy: "I guess it's the couch for me tonight," she said. Then she turned her dark eyes on Miki, a touch of an impish smile on her face, and added as he took a sip of his water, "Unless you'd rather sleep with one of us."
11. Mac's...birthday present...for Kate in Roses in Springtime 12. Also from Roses: "When I went home for the spring interval," said Amanda matter-of-factly, "my younger sister made four separate attempts on my life, one of which, as you can see, was very nearly successful." She blinked her good eye coolly at the counselor and added, "What do your talents and training say to that?"
Admittedly, this list is very preliminary, and I'll probably have to come back to edit it later on, discarding some and adding others, but I think it's off to a good start. Think it's weird? Well, I'm a weird guy. Don't see your favorites up there or disagree with some (all?) of my choices? Well, start a list of your own! No one says you can't, you know? And now, everyone, good night. ---------- Jeffrey McIntyre Still waiting for an update to GNDN... |

I can only add one, which I mentioned in the "New SOS!" thread: Ivanova's blinktake at Utena in the command chair of a Klingon warship. -- Bob --------------- 500 plastic ducks. 1 world. Well, I did say that I'd come back to this list, didn't I? Originally I wanted to edit the original list I had above, but then I thought I'd just leave it at an even dozen. Aside from which, I personally don't consider these additional moments as the "best" ones from Symphony No. 1, though they definitely qualify as some of the better/more memorable ones. 1. The game-ending double play in Game 7 in Wounded Rose 2. Utena's beating of Mike Carpenter in Christmas Rose 3. Gryphon being ejected out of the side of the dojo and landing in the koi pond, where he spends the next minute underwater contemplating as everyone else simply look on in A Rose for the New Year 4. Also in New Year, Utena confronting Dorothy about the Turing application and Corwin's plans to send her to WPI 5. G'Kron, the two Kalidor missionaries, and the Book of G'Quon in A Question of Faith 6. Saionji and Utena's antics with ice and the Frialator, also in Question 7. Kate's search for a vending machine in the Hotel des Deus Iles in The Rose that Blooms in the City of Light 8. Saionji's actions on the train in Reflections in Transition 9. Tiny Robo and his Atomic Buster Cannon in Hunted Rose (Side note: Corwin once mentioned "future expansion" for this little critter. If it includes a weapons upgrade, I'm not sure if I want to know what else he puts into Tiny Robo.) I doubt that I'll come back to edit this list--I spent most of yesterday and today skimming through the stories, and the above are all I pulled out. As I've repeatedly stated before, this is my own personal list, composed of entirely my own opinions, so you are free to disagree with it. I didn't include Ivanova's blinktake because I didn't feel it was all that special; obviously, this is only what I feel. Others, such as Mr. Schroeck, may (and can) feel otherwise.
