"Seeking Symphony Songs"

On a lark, I decided to build a playlist on my iPod of the songs Gryphon used in Symphony of the Sword. It's been a slow process (I bought a new house, which left little money for buying songs and CDs.) I'm halfway through Symphony #1, and it's been an interesting journey. Some songs are available through iTunes, others I buy the CDs (such as the Utena soundtracks). If all legal options fail, there are bittorrents. I like "Silver Thunderbird" a lot, was amused to find that Savatage was an early incarnation of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and "Girls with Guns" is really catchy.

However, one Symphony #1 song has so far escaped my grasp. In Hogtown Rhapsody, there is ""Joyride (I Saw the Film)" by Tribe" from their album "Abort," I believe. The album is out of print, the torrents are silent, and I haven't yet found any means of acquiring this track.

So, I hope that someone out there might have a version of this song that I can load into my music library. If you do, and are willing to shoot me a copy, I'd appreciate it. Or if you know a website where I can acquire it, that'd be great.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

It is indeed on that album.
Tribe has several MP3 versions of their live performances on their web site, including several bootlegs<1> of Joyride:
http://www.tribeonline.info/

<1> is it really a bootleg if the band made the recording? :)

Thanks! Guess I just didn't look hard enough.

Of course, when google just turns up pages and pages of lyrics when you try to search for songs, it can be a bit frustrating. I guess I'll have to change my searching habits.

>Thanks! Guess I just didn't look hard enough.

If you still have problems, I have the album track, along with a couple other tracks of theirs which are pretty good (I've quite fond of "Supercollider"). Can't remember where I got them, although memory hints it was a legal acquisition. Anyway, if you have exhausted all other options, email me.

ETA: And yeah, I have it because I did the same thing you're doing -- assembling all the tracks referenced in the stories. It is a fearsome task.

If you do manage it, can you publish the playlist? At one point I think I had everything, but I'm pretty sure that was about 3 years ago now...

Sounds like a job for last.fm! Someone did something similar for the NXE movie soundtrack a while back, I got a few good tunes out of it.

Same here, I've picked up a lot of good songs from reading the stories, but there have to be some I've missed.

If I remember correctly the NXE movie and series soundtracks were both on there, though a quick search just now isn't turning up anything. Either way, sounds like a plan.

Well, the band Tempest once released a CD entitled "Bootleg" (with, of course, a picture of a boot as the cover), so I'd say yeah, it is if the band says it is. <grin>

FYI: Depending on what album jacket you consult, the Big O (and Ultraman Möbius, coincidentally enough) BGM composer may actually be named Toshihiko Sahashi. I think my original copy of the Big O score may have had a typo in the Engrish bit of the liner notes. So if you're not getting anywhere searching for "Sabashi", there's something to try.

Wrong version. You want the live version with Randy Rhoades, otherwise the lyric sheet at the end of the story doesn't match the song.

Oh, and if anyone else needs some tracks, I've found everything up to Marionette except for The Primitives "Way Behind Me." Ondine took a little looking, as I recall. Just drop me a line and we'll work something out.

Does anyone know how to convert FLAC files to mp3? Most of the "guides" I've seen have included "Download the programs at this link," which leaves me a little wary. You never know where these links lead, and I'd rather avoid malware... so of course I asked a bunch of complete strangers on a fanfic website ;)

I also left out that this playlist also made me appreciate Joe Satriani. I even downloaded one of his songs for Rock Band 2. :)

My favorite app for converting files on Windows is winff. It's a free gui for the open-source ffmpeg command line program. The closest thing I've found on Mac is ffmpegX.
