"The Symphony, an epic?"

It didn't really sink in until I downloaded all the parts onto my harddrive. Symphony of the sword is now almost 2.5 MB.

Wow...

To put it in another way, it's about 2KB to a (double-spaced) typewritten page, which means that SoS is about 1,250 pages long.

Anyone else here think that this will be the largest arc in UF, Core included?

Hmm, Exile has more stories (after 10 years, it should).

That said, I should mention that I planned on binding SOS at Kinkos (quietly of course) so that it could sit at home with my other books, and then I could pull it down and read it whenever. I figured the page editting alone to fit 8.5 x 11 paper in a ring binder set was going to take me most of my weekend computer time (I'm sharing a laptop with the SO at the moment). Then I realized I should really have the images to along with the book, and am hunting for a good, private printer among friends and family so that I can bind those into the book as well. I was planning on tossing in the EOJ pictures from Phil's site as well, just to round out the collection.

Mind you, while I've printed out Eyrie work before and hauled it around with me on trips, IMHO, SOS is the first set of stories to actually merit publication in book form, and an additon to my private library.

I suppose I'll eventually do this for all the stories since eventually the website will fade away or the intellectual property right goons will try something, and while I'm prepared against that day (already burned most of Eyrie to CDROM), I think papercopies might be more secure way to keeping the stories intact. Biased, I know.

I've got all of UF on my hard drive in folders for each arc. If I remember right, Core only takes up about 1MB, and somewhere around 300 pages (I printed it out, I know)

As for the Symphony, I've got the First through Third Movements, Azalynn's Holiday, Fanfare for an Exiled Prince, Sixth and Seventh Movements and Panvare here with me. They're taking up two A4 folders near my feet.

That's big. Not quite the biggest fic I've ever read, but in the top 5. (Insertion {Kai Carrot}, Starblade Battalion {Kai Shawn Hagen}, Trial by Tenderness {Kai Cevn} are 3 Megs plus - roughly the size of Symphony in the format I store it - and The Saotome Gambit {Kai J. Austin Wilde} clocks in at just over 4 Megs.

Undocumented Features as a whole, occupies just shy of 14 megabytes, bigger than all but one other 'collection' of fanfics on my harddrive - BEFORE the other Eyrie works are added.

You done good, guys.

subpages are:-
'Archive Principalis Miscellaneous' for Starblade Battalion & Trial by Tenderness
'Crossovers' for The Saotome Gambit

With SMZ, though, you have to add in the other stories that are in the same arc - Symphony of the Planets, Dance of Shiva, and Black Moon Rising - which pushes it up to 5.38 megabytes.

Then there's another favorite of mine, Children of an Elder God, which I won't make a kb size check on because the pages include graphics but according to Acrobat it passed the 1,000 page mark three or four chapters ago.

Anyone else got some good huge-ficcage?

Old but still fun: Twisted Path (if you can find the fragments of episodes 5 & 6, you'll have multiple megs) and of course, The Bubblegum Zone - Close to 10 megs once you toss in all the side stories.

Darren (Twister) has a new home page, but I think r.a.a.c has all his stories; the fragments are harder to find - I'm sure someone archived them. Bert's page hasn't been updated in a while, but someone posted to this site the update page to the update page with BZ 11 beta on it.

I think Drakensis might have them or something similiar on the same page as the BZ 11 beta.

>and of course, The Bubblegum Zone - Close to 10 megs once you toss in all the >side stories.

Bert's story is 10 meg? I measure it at around 3.7 meg (in .txt format). There must be more side stories out there than I thought.

The Archetype Association and Just Lucky I Guess are huge and unfinished. And Drunkard's Walk looks like it's going to be huge.

Well, DW2 got a little away from me... also, a lot of it is the explaining of Doug's background that by rights should have occurred in DW1, but won't, because of the Lackey fanfiction issue. (Which is even more restrictive than I previously thought, I recently discovered... her lawyers/agent are seriously anti-Net.) Anyway, many of the other Steps in the Walk are likely to be smaller pieces; I don't see DW3 and DW5 inflating to DW2 size, for example.

There are only parts 1-4 and an incomplete part 10. Nothing about parts 5&6. :(

That would be excellent. lost my copies when UC finally down my account. At the time I didn't sweat it. "Surely" I thought, "he'll finsh them!".

I think 5 continues with Twister, having visited the Gundam universe returning home to Canada the day after he left. I think episode 6 was Twister in a D&D universe fighting a dragon in order to save someone from being sacrificed. I though six was almost done, but was never posted.

To put this in yet another perspective, doing some ballpark figuring puts SotS so far at about 425,000 - 430,000 words, conservatively speaking. (I could get an exact wordcount, and probably will at some point, but at the moment I'll settle for some rough figures instead.) Rule of thumb says that 50,000 words, typeset and printed, comes to 200 pages in normal publishing formats.

So this is over 1700 pages so far if it were printed like conventional fiction... and that's not counting the bonus materials, like the images and the technical readouts.

And there's much more to come, it would seem.

According to Word, there are (counting credits and everything) 415,541 words in the Symphony through the end of "Pavane for a Dead Princess." (Yes, I've got it all put together in a single Word file. Yes, I'm nuts, but what the hell.) I'm not sure how accurate that is... but it's at least something to go on.
