"(OWaW) New Witch Profiles"

I've compiled the non-501st witch profiles that have appeared in other threads here, as well as a few others, into a couple of new documents linked from the series page: One for members of the 511th JFW and one for others of note. There's information in each file that hasn't appeared here (and more to come as developments warrant).

Looking good so far, although I'm still more than half expecting to see a certain Liberion officer named Dolittle to turn up in one of these lists...

It is astonishing how many people have the impression that Jane Doolittle died in 1942. Mind you, the Ufa Raid was an insanely ambitious plan - no one who had actually done the math thought for a second that B-25-equipped witches could even take off from a submarine, much less penetrate that far into the Orussian interior and still be combat-effective when they arrived over their target, much less make it all the way to Suomus afterward. So maybe it's not so surprising that a lot of people don't expect any of the participants to have survived.

Survive most of them did, though, and destroying the Ufa Hive secured the Orussian evacuation's western flank, enabling most of the evacuees to make it to Yekaterinburg in relative safety. Which was not a bad first play for the Liberion forces, and quieted a lot of the continental Allies' grumbling about how the USL took its sweet time bothering to get involved in the war.

In fact, what the heck, here.

Jane Harriet "Jenny" Doolittle
Lieutenant General, United States of Liberion Army Air Forces
"Wrecker"

Nationality: Liberion
Date of birth: December 14, 1926
Familiar: Bull terrier
Striker model: North Liberion P-51K Mustang
Weapon of choice: M1919 .30-caliber Browning machine gun (x2)

One of Liberion's great aviation pioneers, Jane Doolittle began her aerial career in the spring of 1936, when she was nine - a tender age even for a flying witch. By the end of that summer, she had hedgehopped her way around a complete circuit of the continental United States, the first aviator ever to accomplish the feat, using a First Neuroi War-vintage Curtiss JN-4 biplane Striker nicknamed "Jenny". So many reporters covering the flight assumed that the aircraft's name was her own that she eventually gave up trying to correct them, and has been Jenny Doolittle in the public's mind ever since.

After joining what was then called the Army Air Corps in 1937, Doolittle invented the technique of "perception flying" - using magical means to correct for the natural errors in situational awareness caused by impaired visibility - and greatly improved the safety margin of night and bad-weather flight for witches. (This ability is often confused by laypeople with magic radar, but the two disciplines are entirely separate. Magic radar is a specialist technique very few witches can employ, while all flying witches can be, and as a general rule are, taught at least the basics of perception flying.) By 1938, Captain Doolittle was one of the loudest voices calling for the Liberion forces to develop Miyafuji Engine-equipped Strikers, and in 1939 Major Doolittle became one of the first Army officers to make a public call for her country to enter the war against the Neuroi.

All this agitation nearly got her cashiered, and in fact it was three years before the USL finally got into the war - at which point Lt. Col. Doolittle astounded and annoyed the brass again by propounding an absurdly ambitious first operation for the Army Air Force to undertake: nothing less than the destruction of the Neuroi Hive at Ufa in west-central Orussia, which threatened the evacuation of that country's major population centers to planned fallback positions east of the Urals. This was insanely far from any Liberion base or supply point, and the Army brass deemed Doolittle's plan, which involved a submarine launch from the Black Sea and a one-way ferry flight to Suomus with a bombing raid on a major Neuroi Hive in between, a suicide mission.

There were those who wouldn't have minded seeing Jane Doolittle get herself killed on a damnfool idealistic crusade, though, and either way it would be good press to offset the grumbling about Liberion's late entry into the war; so the plan was approved, with the proviso that all its participants must be volunteers. Some assumed Doolittle would never be able to talk a dozen other witches into undertaking the mission. Some were wrong. The destruction of the Ufa Hive opened the way for the evacuation of some 80 percent of Orussia's population and cemented the reputation of the witch the papers were now calling "Jenny the Wrecker" all over the world.

Now the Liberion Army's youngest-ever lieutenant general, Doolittle is the highest-ranking witch in that country's armed forces and head of all Liberion aviation assets in the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe. In that capacity she is constantly butting heads with older, maler colleagues, who have their own (usually wrong, according to Doolittle) ideas of how "her girls" should best be employed. It's a hassle, but Jenny the Wrecker doesn't mind - it's just another hedge to be hopped.

As popular with the rank and file as she is unpopular with most other generals, Doolittle makes it a point to participate personally in at least one sortie a month, somewhere in the AEF's theater of operations. President Truman really, really wishes she wouldn't do that, but he can't stop her. No one can stop her. That, if you ask her, is kind of the point.

Jenny's archetype is General James "Jimmy" Doolittle, who people remember nowadays mostly for the 1942 Tokyo Raid, but who was, in fact, one of America's foremost aviators long before he did that - among other achievements, he pioneered instrument flying, won more or less every aviation trophy going in the '20s, and was the first person to perform an outside loop and not get killed doing it.

I'm slightly surprised, now that I think on it, that nobody brought up Jimmy Doolittle before now, considering that he got some of those trophies flying a Gee Bee R-1, which is much like a Striker unit in that they're both an engine into which a pilot is installed, and they require supernatural abilities to fly (the Fantasy of Flight museum has a flyable replica, and apparently the ailerons start working backwards at or below 110 mph, among other things).

Ah, the GBR-1. The most powerful pre-Miyafuji Striker ever built... and the most dangerous. (To its operator, I mean. It would've been useless in combat.)

Not entirely useless- it could be very handy for a diversionary operation, a.k.a. "slap a Neuroi on the head and run away, get them to chase me into an ambush/out of the path of the main force". This is probably a suicidally stupid idea, but then again, so's putting on a GBR-1 in the first place.

It might work. Or you might end up making the most hilarious entrance to the afterlife since General John Sedgwick.*

By the '40s there are probably faster Strikers available; the old hit-and-run is a specialty of certain marks of Mosquito, for instance. And while those are flammable, they are at least relatively stable. :)

** Behind what is a fair question when considering the Striker Unit version. Maybe it was an attempt at combining the power of the Miyafuji Engine with the old-fashioned backpack-mounted magic engines of earlier models, because more is always more, right?

I'm just waiting to see who's the first lunatic to try adding RATO packs (technically it would probably be a RA^2 pack- "Rocket Assisted Running Away/At", but still) to their gear. Or strapping on Gryphon's jetpack while he's laid up and running both sets of engines at the same time, because why not?

They have them! They show up in episode 6 of season 2.

Is that the scene that has a YouTube clip (that I can't find now) where what looks like most of the squadron assembles into a multi-witch staged launch vehicle to get a couple of them up to what's probably a mind-boggling altitude?

I think I saw the Season 1 DVD in the shops here last week. I'm seriously considering it.

That's one of them, yes. The rocket boosters make a few appearances in that episode (they're used at multiple stages, no pun intended, of the mission that's the beginning of). A slide shown during the mission briefing indicates that they are - no big surprise - made in Karlsland.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-15 AT 03:23 AM (EST)

The 63rd anniversary of the most recent British succession is coming up in a couple of weeks. Please be upstanding.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor DSC
Squadron Leader, Royal Britannian Air Force
Her Royal Highness the Princess Elizabeth
"Liz 2"

Nationality: Britannia
Date of birth: April 21, 1926
Familiar: Welsh corgi
Striker model: Hawker Tempest Mk V
Weapon of choice: Hispano Mk V 20mm cannon

King George VI of Britannia is a conflicted man. On the one hand, he could not conceivably be prouder of his eldest daughter for playing such an active role in the defense of the realm, the Empire, and indeed the world. It simply isn't humanly possible. On the other hand, he is bloody furious with his eldest daughter for eluding all of his attempts to keep her off the front line and otherwise exercise royal prerogative to protect her from harm. (He probably also rather wishes that not quite so many of her future subjects had seen her underwear, but that isn't the sort of thing a gentleman discusses.) At the very least he was hoping that she would retire after the Gallia campaign concluded in the fall of 1944, which saw the removal of any imminent Neuroi threat to the Britannian Isles.

HRH the Princess sees things a bit differently than her old man, though. As far as she's concerned, she has a royal obligation to do everything that she can do to help secure the world, not just her own country, against the Neuroi - and since she happened to be born a witch, what she can do amounts to rather more than speaking to the kingdom on the radio at Christmas and waving prettily from balconies to crowds of well-wishers. She's a genuine flying ace with 57 confirmed Neuroi shoot-downs, including six major unit core destructions, most of them scored during her service with 601 Squadron RAF in the defense of London in 1940-43. As she approaches her 20th birthday, many are watching for signs that she might be slowing down. So far, to her father's dismay, there aren't any.

Conscious of her royal status but determined not to be burdened by it, Elizabeth has insisted since the start of her uniformed career that she not be addressed by her royal title by her comrades - hence her official appearance on the RAF's books under the surname "Windsor". Cheerful and resolute, she claims no honors other than those she has earned in combat, and no title other than her RAF rank. (Confusingly to foreigners, the RAF rank of "squadron leader" is equivalent to "major" in other services; it does not actually mean she leads a squadron.) Her colleagues in the 511th JFW, and those who served with her in 601 Squadron, just call her Liz.

Her callsign is a wryly premature reference to the fact that, when she succeeds her father, she'll be Elizabeth II. The real Princess Elizabeth, now the Queen, served in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service as a mechanic and truck driver. (Which rather puts in perspective all those younger heads of state being a bit patronizingly nice to the old lady at the anniversary do's in Normandy last year.)

I just stumbled across fun anecdote about HRH's driving talents, which were put to good use "entertaining" another monarch recently in the news, Saudi Arabia's King Abudullah. Article is here, but the gist of it is, Abdullah visited the UK in 2003 and Elizabeth II took him to visit Balmoral Castle in Scotland, and she insisted on doing the driving herself, at what were apparently terror-inducing speeds.

"This is probably a stupid question, but . . ."

I wonder if there's an Arabic equivalent phrase for "Where did you learn to drive, the army?" — the Queen does have quite a sense of humour, when she wants to let it show. I've never been on the estate to see the roads, but the normal public roads round about are pretty twisty, not really all that wide, and tree-lined. Definitely not suitable for being a conscious passenger with an army-trained driver... ;)

One of the pictures I found while hunting for what I used as her file pic, and which I couldn't use only because it was too low-rez to crop properly to the standard size I'm using, shows her standing in uniform in front of a deuce-and-a-half truck. That is an image that will stay with me. :)

Would that be the one in this section of her Wiki page? The full-size pic still isn't all that big, but it looks like it could take a bit of zooming in.

The punch line, of course, being that women aren't allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. A tidbit of which one is sure Her Majesty was well aware when she arranged that little expedition.

So that was Liz putting the boot in, in more ways than one. God save the Queen.

Thought it might be Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (or the Strike Witches equivalent) considering there's no WWI to drive changing the name. Also a bit of hometown pride as it were, considering the Neuroi seem to squatting in that general area.

Hmm, that hadn't occurred to me; I had forgotten that that was the reason for changing the name of the house. On the other hand, if she's trying to be non-ostentatious, signing the personnel book as "Elizabeth A.M. Saxe-Coburg-Gotha" doesn't really do that. :) So maybe "Windsor" is in fact her coinage in that universe, chosen off the cuff as her joinin'-the-RAF alias. (Joking about it with friends later, she notes that she had her pick of the various royal residences, and could just as easily have punted and become Elizabeth Hamptoncourt. :)

This is very true, though it beats signing in as "Prince Louis of Battenberg" everywhere. ;)

   >That reminds me, is there actually an in-universe explanation for the
>lack of pants?

Not really, at least not one that's consistently followed. I mean, as Gryphon noted in New Tricks, the configuration of the Striker Unit would make it difficult to wear pants in an operational capacity, but they don't wear them off-duty either, and in practice the phenomenon extends beyond Striker-using witches. For instance, Yoshika's mother, a witch doctor,* doesn't wear trousers or a skirt either (though her doctor's coat does reach to her knees). (Her mother wears hakama, but then, she's an old lady. That is presumably her prerogative.)

It might thus be a general witch thing, but there again, in various scenes we also see hospital nurses (magical status unclear) and Yoshika's childhood friend Micchan (who specifically does not have any magical ability) similarly un-bedecked. So if you go by that and don't assume that it's an animators' oversight, it appears to just be customary in the setting that young women don't wear lower-body garments other than underpants, witches or not.

(There's also the suggestion that it's to provide clearance for their tails, but then Fusō Navy witches, e.g., Mio and Yoshika, wear one-piece swimsuits with a slot at the back for the purpose; so that doesn't stand up to scrutiny either. As it were.)

For OWaW purposes, I'm proceeding from the assumption that it is in fact a witch custom and not something muggle women do. This is contradicted by the canon, as I've noted, but I think it makes more internal sense.

Well given his family would have preferred that the evacuation plans in the event the Neuroi over-ran Britannia (which would have sent them to Canada) included the King accompanying them*, I imagine the sentiment flows in both directions.

*I'm assuming, having not yet watched Strike Witches, that Neuroi occupation doesn't involve eradication of the human population and thus that remaining behind to lead a resistance movement would be feasible.

It appears to be a genocide thing; at the very least, it's stated or implied in several cases that the occupied countries just ordered full-scale evacuations of everyone. I believe the expectation is everybody who didn't get out is gone.

They don't get into the details in the TV show, but in the one of the novels I've read a translation of, it's not so much that the Neuroi specifically wipe out civilian populations - indeed, they don't seem to notice or care about them - as that their presence in force makes areas they've occupied toxic to animal life and therefore uninhabitable.

(Mind you, the Neuroi in the books are very different from the ones who appear on TV - less technically advanced, but smarter. In the anime they fight very similarly to the Fleet of Fog: stupidly, but with such superior durability and firepower that it doesn't really matter if they're up against conventional forces. They don't have death rays or anti-gravity flight in the book I read, but they do seem to understand tactics.)

That gets me to wondering whether there might not be room for a meta-link between the two, at least in UF. They seem to have a lot of (admittedly superficial) similarities, after all...

Come to think of it, the Neuroi mostly seem interested in land targets, while the Fog are after the seas. If my brain weren't currently in a pain/painkiller addled state, I could probably make a few interesting points out of that.

Eleanor Wallis Hutchins
Second Lieutenant, United States of Liberion Army Air Forces
"Umcolcus"

Nationality: Liberion
Date of birth: March 23, 1930
Familiar: Raccoon
Striker model: Northrop P-61C Black Widow
Weapon of choice: M2 .50-caliber Browning machine gun

Notes: A "90-day wonder" - product of the Liberion armed forces' accelerated wartime officer training program. Through no fault of her own, 2nd Lt. Hutchins has seen little actual action, despite having been overseas for three years and being older than several of the 501st's veterans. When she had just about finished flight training, her magic radar manifested and prompted a switch to the Night Witch role, which meant still more training, and by the time that was finished, so was the Battle of Britannia. A posting to the 507th JFW in Suomus followed, and while she did see some action there, she missed out on the Venezia campaign as a result.

If Perrine thought Yoshika was a country mouse, she hadn't seen anything until Eleanor showed up; she comes from the northern reaches of Dawnland, the northeasternmost Liberion state, where there is (in Eleanor's own words) "not much but woods and potato fields." (The latter piqued Hartmann's interest; few people love a potato more.) Still, what she lacks in urban refinements, she makes up for with canniness and a number of interesting woodland skills, which may prove useful if she's downed in the Belgican wilderness. As befits a witch with a raccoon familiar, she's mischievous and fun-loving; gets on well with Lucchini and Hartmann. As an up-and-coming Liberion Night Witch, she has some of the best equipment currently available to that specialized profession, and her heavy P-61 Striker, though not as maneuverable as some, enables her to pack a heavy weapon and a lot of ammo.

She is also the local DC of Gryphon's grandfather Leonard, which he finds slightly startling. (She first came to his attention in '43, when Shirley noticed her uncommon last name in that month's issue of Star and Stripes, the Liberion armed-forces newspaper, as one of that country's forces newly arrived in Britannia for advanced training.) Her callsign is an Abenaki (Native Liberion) word meaning "whistling duck", which is the name of a lake in the region she comes from; how it ended up attached to her is unclear, but it happened at some point during basic flight training at nearby Presque Isle Army Airfield in 1943.

Phyllis "Phee" Schwartz
Sergeant, Royal Farawayland Air Force
"Quills"

Nationality: Farawayland
Date of birth: April 13, 1928
Familiar: Porcupine
Striker model: Hawker Hurricane Mk XII
Weapon of choice: Hispano Mk V autocannon

Notes: Phee comes from the same borderland region of the North Liberion continent as Eleanor, having been born in the town immediately across the Farawayland-USL border from the latter's birthplace, and her unit is now posted out of the same forward base. Two years older, she's seen a good deal more action, having joined up with the RFAF in 1941, and fought in the Battle of Britannia (but not Venezia, having been on a home-defense posting in Britannia at that time). Her interest in the current campaign goes beyond a simple desire to contribute to the fight against the Neuroi, as her ancestors came from Alsace-Lorraine - the Gallia-Karlsland border region where both the 501st and 511th are currently based, and one of the present frontlines of the war. Her Striker is based on a Britannian design now considered obsolescent by the RAF, but still in production in Farawayland. Though not as fast or maneuverable as the current-generation Spitfires or Hawker's own late-model Tempest, it's very sturdy and powerful enough that she can carry the devastating Mk V autocannon. Strong-willed and not shy about telling people exactly what she thinks, she's sensitive to jokes about her familiar's somewhat legendary lack of brightness... which Eleanor generally can't stop herself from making.

She, in turn, is the local DC of Gryphon's grandmother, which really messes with his head when he sees her and Eleanor in their natural habitat. Her callsign is a reference to the most dramatic side effect of her familiar - where most witches merely manifest animal ears and a tail (if their familiar has one) when employing magic, Phee's entire head of hair turns into a spiky mass of barbed spines. These normally lie flat back but stand up most impressively when she's agitated. (She also does manifest a quill-covered tail, which can be used as a weapon in an emergency.)

He's probably also a little surprised to realize - as I was, after writing the scene with Eleanor and Phee interacting, based on 40 years of watching the real articles in the wild - that my grandmother is in fact a tsundere. It didn't contextualize until I actually envisioned her as an anime character. :)

I've just learned that I had Ursula Hartmann's familiar wrong; despite being Erica's twin, she doesn't have the same familiar.

Here's the interesting part: Erica's familiar is a dachshund - a dog bred to hunt badgers.

Ursula's?

A badger.

Hmm.

(Also, that is a surprisingly badass familiar for someone as quiet and retiring as Ursula. Suggests she might have a hidden dimension that emerges when her back's to the wall, and is generally not an individual to be messed around with. :)

   Witolda Urbanowicz
Flying Officer, Britannian Royal Air Force
"Bear Girl"

Nationality: Orussia (Polonia)
Date of birth: March 30, 1928
Familiar: Brown bear (see below)
Striker model: Curtiss XP-40Q "Super" Warhawk
Weapon of choice: M2 .50-caliber Browning machine gun, Fliegerhammer

Notes: In a series of stages between 1772 and 1795, the ancient kingdom of Polonia ceased to exist as an independent nation, its territory partitioned between Prussia (later to become the most politically influential part of Karlsland), Ostmark, and Orussia. Within a generation or two, the areas of Polonia that became parts of Karlsland and Ostmark integrated into those empires reasonably well. (For instance, Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke is from Poznań, in the Karlsland sector of Polonia, and has never considered herself other than a Karlsländer.) The area that became part of the Orussian Empire... didn't.

When the Second Neuroi War began in 1939, that area was already on the brink of a separatist uprising, and many of its witches refused to fight under the flag of a country they considered an alien occupier in its own right. Instead, they scattered to other Allied nations. A good many, suspicious of Karlsland and Ostmark as well as Orussia (for obvious reasons), fled farther west and joined the Britannian RAF. Witolda Urbanowicz, a mere child of 11 at the time, was one of these. She served with 303 Squadron ("Kościuszko") throughout the Battle of Britannia, rising to command of the squadron by the end of the campaign; but command was not to her liking, and once the Neuroi threat to Britannia was ended, she requested a voluntary demotion back to Flying Officer to get away from it.

This her superiors were only too happy to grant, because Witolda is a strange specimen even by witch standards. Disregard for military pomp and protocol is far from uncommon among witches, but she takes it to its logical extreme, to an extent that would probably get her thrown in the stockade if she wasn't a highly decorated volunteer to begin with. She's never worn a proper uniform because, as she points out, she doesn't have a proper country. Though usually cheerful to a degree that makes some people wonder whether she's on something, she has little use for Orussians and will avoid them if at all possible. She'll eat pretty much anything that isn't alive (and a few things that are), drink pretty much anything that's a liquid, and sleep anywhere that isn't actively harmful to human life.

For most people, though, the strangest thing about Witolda Urbanowicz is that her familiar is an actual animal. Virtually all witches' familiars are æthereal creatures, spirit exemplars of the animals they represent, invisible to all but the witches they serve; but Wojtek is... well, a bear. Rather than manifest his ears and tail on her own body when she's calling on him to boost her magical power, Witolda carries him, a full-grown Syrian brown bear, on her back. That he wears a uniform (he holds the rank of sergeant, RAF, and is officially listed as her crew chief), drinks beer, can handle a rocket launcher, and smokes Liberion cigarettes whenever he can find them is all just icing on that particular cake. It's little wonder that people seeing Witolda and Wojtek in action are left wondering whether she's crazy or they are.

Since leaving 303 Squadron, Witolda has been a military nomad of sorts, wandering the war zone with her Striker Unit, her trusty machine gun, her bear, and his Fliegerhammer, sticking their noses in wherever things look like they might be interesting. Along the way she picked up an experimental Liberion Striker (a performance upgrade to the venerable P-40 that's meant to make it competitive with later-model P-51s again), reputedly because she was the only one mad enough to agree to test it after losing her Spitfire in Persia in '45.

Apart from flying high-performance Striker Units in aerial combat while giving a full-grown brown bear wielding a rocket launcher a piggyback ride, Witolda's magical specialty, like Eila's, is foresight; and like Eila, she's never been hit by enemy fire (her Spitfire was destroyed on the ground while she wasn't using it).

Witolda and Wojtek's ace archetypes are, respectively, Polish RAF ace Witold Urbanowicz (who probably had a less quirky personality, but a similarly wacky career trajectory - after the Battle of Britain he flew P-40s with the Flying Tigers in China because of personality clashes with the Polish command-structure-in-exile!) and, well, Corporal Wojtek, the bear soldier.

Soldier Bear! I've loved stories of this guy ever since I heard of him.

Amusingly enough, I now have a coworker named Wojciech -- which is apparently the name from which Wojtek was derived as a diminutive form.

And who exactly is this diabolical 'they' to which we keep referring? If there's some grand conspiracy going on, the right hand doesn't appear to know what the left is doing. --Raziel (Soul Reaver II)

Things like this are proof that the world is far more awesome than most people give it credit for.

My favorite part of that wiki article is that the photo caption finds it necessary to specify that of the two Polish soldiers, the bear is the one on the right.

Witolda similarly insists that any photo of herself and Wojtek be appropriately captioned.

"Uh... what is that?"

"This? This is Wojtek! My good friend and number one rocket shooting comrade!"

"No, I mean... why do you have a bear?"

"Wojtek is not just bear! Wojtek is... what is English word? Wojtek is MAGIC bear."

"... He's your FAMILIAR?!"

"Yes! That is exactly."

I have a sneaking suspicion that its not so much precognition that keeps her from getting shot so much as sheer shocked disbelief on the part of her targets.

I have to wonder if Tanya Degurechaff might appear, since the... mechanic of flight for mages in that series is fairly comparable to the description von Hammer gives of WWI Witch hardware, and Tanya is operating in a WWI environment.

I have to suspect that if she did appear it would be in an adversarial role much like a witch equivalent of von Reichenberg. Albeit one not likely to engage in such showboating.

She's got strong magic, no deficiency in courage or intelligence... and she's a horrible person. "A monster in the form of a little girl," is the term used at the end of the first episode.

If you like the idea of Strike Witches but find it too silly, then "The Saga of Tanya the Evil" might be for you. It has flying witches (male and female) wearing clothes appropriate to the period and weather. Trench warfare is bloody and horrible, but it's interesting how the mages from each country have different styles (the "French" ride mechanical horses, while the "Swedes" ride flying skis).

The series is on Crunchyroll, and I will agree with drakensis that Tanya is a horrible, horrible person. The only thing that really makes it watchable is that Karma is a Bitch. No matter how she plots and plans, things will never go completely her way because she literally pissed off God.

I don't think she's a good fit for OWaW, though, as she's just too nasty to fit the tone. Now her Sancho Panza, Viktoriya Ivanovna Serebryakov, would fit, but by 1946 she would be either ruling the universe from beyond the grave or checked into a psycho ward for extreme PTSD.
