"an s1 musing"

Re-reading the early part of Symphony No. 1 by way of working on Correspondence III, I'm struck again by how satisfied I still am with the depth of feeling expressed by Corwin's line, "He will walk among the damned and dishonored on the Final Day, and I will find him among their legions and I will KILL HIM AGAIN!" That's how you know a Norseman really, really hates somebody, when he's willing to put in that kind of effort to pursue a continuation of a personal vendetta in the middle of the Ragnarök, when presumably it's ultimately not going to matter anyway. --G. -><- Benjamin D. It's always been my favorite of your lines. I cribbed it a couple weeks back in a D&D game. well, sorta. it was more along the lines of "I'll hunt him down and kill him for that. I'll kill him and then, when I die and get dragged down to hell, I'll seek him out and tear out his spleen. And woe betide any demon who stands in my way" but considering that Corwin is swearing to tear his way through whole ARMIES in order to hunt down what's his name... -- -Pasha What was that feeling again? Not to mention >My curse upon you, Akio Ohtori,< he snarled in his mother tongue. >By my Will and by my Power, Birthright from my divine Mother, This is my command: May you never know completion May you never know achievement May you never know success: But always frustration Always shortfall Always failure.< Akio sneered mockingly and lunged; Corwin slipped the strike, whirled Stick about him, and thrust it billiard-cue-style through his curled left hand. As the ferrule on the forward end passed through his hand it began to glow with the same scarlet light as his raging brand. >I am Corwin of the Raven-Hair,< he roared, and as the ferrule smacked firmly into the vestigial dot of a brand in the center of Akio's forehead, he completed the curse: >Let the covenant of my hatred be sealed upon your brow!< From Knights of the Tenth World Part III: Endgame and "My curse still stands, you scum, you -nithling-," Corwin spat in a voice of cold but barely contained wrath. "So does my vow to kill you. Not here, not now - that would be improper. As your pal Touga pointed out, there are rules to this sort of thing. But someday, Akio, you're going to screw up and put yourself across my path. And when that happens?" Corwin leaned in another inch, so that their noses were almost touching, and whispered in a low, venomous rasp, "_I'm going to tear you apart._"

I've never heard of it. I'm going to try and find it somewhere, maybe Youtube has the clip. I really like it. Normally pleasant people giving in to the Furies will can be a powerful moment of growth for the character, as it was in Corwin's case. What I see in this is a vendetta backed by the ageless will of the Aesir. Hell, once the Worldtree registers this input, It's virtually a foregone conclusion! Tall dark 'n creepy can run, scheme, connive and plot, but it will accomplish nothing but to hasten along his own demise. So delicious! KHAAAAAAAAAAAN!!! ---- Now Playing: Tool -- Eulogy (Ćnima, 1996) Standing above the crowd, He had a voice that was strong and loud and I Swallowed his facade, 'cause I'm so Eager to identify with Someone above the ground, Someone who seemed to feel the same, Someone prepared to lead the way and Someone who would die for me... Will you? Will you now? Would you die for me? Don't you fuckin lie! < THIS SPACE FOR RENT > |

LAST EDITED ON Apr-12-10 AT 09:07 PM (EDT) >True confession: That line, both the wording and Corwin's delivery, >was inspired by Sir David Jason as, of all characters, the >normally-happy-go-lucky Detective Inspector Jack Frost in an old >episode of A Touch of Frost. To be utterly and completely pissy and nit-picking, he isn't SIR David Jason. He's Sir David John White. Not that it matters in the least in the long run, but...
Anyways, would you happen to know which episode this was? One can hope, as they say. Especially since monday last was the last episode, and all. ...! Stoke Mandeville, Esq & The Victorian Ballsmiths "Nobody Want Verdigris- Covered Balls!" |

>To be utterly and completely pissy and nit-picking, he isn't SIR David >Jason. He's Sir David John White.Yes, yes, I know. And Sir Michael Caine isn't really Sir Michael Caine, either, but if I said "Sir Maurice Micklewhite", most people wouldn't know who the fuck I was talking about. :) >Anyways, would you happen to know which episode this was? Alas, I haven't the slightest. It was a very long time ago, though, when they used to show AToF sometimes on A&E, so it must've been quite an early episode. (You know, back in the 1990s, when they still occasionally had arts and entertainment on that channel.) All I can remember now is that he was talking to a suspect he couldn't quite hang something on, and quite suddenly changed from good cop to bad cop - which, coming from Frost, was only slightly less startling than if he'd turned into the Hulk. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >Yes, yes, I know. And Sir Michael Caine isn't really Sir Michael >Caine, either, but if I said "Sir Maurice Micklewhite", most people >wouldn't know who the fuck I was talking about. :) Point. Definetly a point. I have to say, in relations to Sir Michael, that it's a pity he didn't look the other way. The image of a proper British actor named Sir Michael One Hundred and One Dalmatians tickles me, as it were. >Alas, I haven't the slightest. As does the image of a British Hulk in Frosts hat. Tickles me, that is. But yes, I can imagine that it would sort of break the scene, a bit. The show was somewhat...irregular, perhaps, though. There are 'series' with only the one episode in it, all year. ...! Stoke Mandeville, Esq & The Victorian Ballsmiths "Nobody Want Verdigris- Covered Balls!" |

Indeed... they might show a marathon, what with the show finally having finished. Frost was very good, but dropped off a bit until the swansong, for which they shot two endings. If you look on the ITV website, you can see the ending that didn't go out.
