It feels good to run into this and notice it when I just put Borderlands down. There was just something deeply satisfying about the shooting engine used in that game. Crank that ol' S&S Orion into your shoulder and just give some poor dead guy a real bad headache..

Pzot!

Heh, yeah, there are little Borderlands references all through Star-Crossed, mainly because that was what I was doing that month when I wasn't sleeping, eating, or working on Star-Crossed. :)

There were originally going to be more - as mentioned in the annotations, Goodyear was initially going to be a transplanted Fyrestone - but the bigger ones went by the wayside. There are a number of Borderlands weapons (and a mention of Marcus's shop) elsewhere in the piece, and although it's never come up, Alice Hernandez is intended to be an ancestor of Mordecai the Hunter.

To expand on the game for anyone else reading this, Borderlands is a hybrid between Unreal Tournament or Quake and Diablo, set in a Fallout-esque universe. As of the most recent DLC, there are over 17 million weapons. (in reality, there's about 100, available in like 17 thousand variants each.).

The unique thing about Borderlands, in my recent experience, is that it does not needlessly cripple or penalize players engaging in multiplayer _cooperative_ work. You can drop in and drop out of another person's game without causing them to have to log out or drop session or harming their quest progression (or yours!) and your saves are all local to you..

highly recommended, available on Steam.

Slightly off-topic, but:

This does not seem to be working as intended, then, on my end. Several of us (if you're the Kokuten I think you are, you know them all) just picked it up -- the entire household plus one, in fact -- and we've been running into multiplayer issues *all the time* with quests not completing properly, being unavailable, etc and so on.

Other than that, though, awesomely fun and addictive game. Definitely has that "just five more minutes" thing going on... where the "five more minutes" turns into "oh shit I have to work in the morning, where'd the past four hours go?!"

I am indeed. My solution to that (it popped up a couple times for me and @Daemeonx) was to tell him to roll a damn alt. Once we kept in closer lockstep, the problem got a lot easier to handle. I also grabbed the editor. I have precisely zero qualms with just editing the character in question to make the quest available again.
