"A note on today's release (12/24)..."

LAST EDITED ON Dec-24-01 AT 02:09 PM (EST)

[Wow... how tired was I when I posted this originally? Tired enough to do all the markup wrong... ]

As you can see from its initial date stamp and overall setting, Interlude at the Hotel Monolith takes place after Christmas 2405. However, it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to finish Another Christmas Rose for a Christmas release, and I wanted to put something out today if I could - it's traditional in my family to open one present on Christmas Eve.

As it happens, Interlude at the Hotel Monolith was the second Interlude to more or less explode out of my head, confirming what Interlude at Bancroft Tower No. 1 had already made fairly apparent to me - that Corwin's being smitten with Utena was going to be a lot more serious (and a lot more reciprocal) than I had originally thought. It's been more or less complete for six months, ever since that initial one-night explosion, but for some fit, finish and polish work, which I've done over the past few days when I should have been working on ACR.

So, what the hell. It didn't confuse anyone too badly when the Exile stories jumped around between decades; let's see if I can skip part of a week without making too many people fall off the bus. :)

I really rather like this part of the whole ongoing saga... And it seems fitting, really, the way the love/friendship is turning out.

My first reaction, though, was a generic "BWAH!?" when Utena called Corwin her Iron Knight. It could just be the sleep deprivation of the holidays (My family never sleeps around Xmas - Goddess only knows why...), but my first thought was of the nameless Rune God of Iron from Cephiro, and the way it happens to be waiting for the one who will be the Rune Knight of Iron. Fascinating thought, that...

Normally, I don't chime in to echo sentiments, even when I share them pretty strongly. But this time I feel the need.

Thank you, Gryphon, for a most thoughtful gift.
