>I was looking at my copy of the Star Trek Encyclopedia and had >a thought about the Nebula Class. After >all, if you accept the premise that the sensor pod is changable for >different mission profiles, then it is not too big a leap to assume a >sub-class of this ship being a carrier. Perhaps; but whatever you do to it, it's still uglier than a cat's asshole. --G. -><- Benjamin D. But we havn't seen too many large carrier types in >B5, and to me the sensor array on the Nebula looks like a >carrier deck on a ST:TNG-type ship. >I've been involved with things on the Babylon 5 Wars boardgame (canonical material, reviewed by JMS or his representative) for years now, and believe me, there are lots of carriers. The Earth Alliance sector flagships, as of the show era, are Poseidon-class supercarriers, equipped with advanced C3I technology and carrying 8 squadrons of Thunderbolt model Starfuries (96 planes in total). This is, I believe, the largest carrier currently fielded in the B5 universe; although the "Strike Cruiser" carrying 1-2 squadrons of fighters as organic support units are a very common sight - fielded by, among others, Earth, Narn, Centauri, Minbari, Brakiri, Cascor, Balosian, etc. It's a very fun game. :) >Of course, there is always the carriers from Space: Above and >Beyond. Just a little too "clunky" looking for my taste. But >they would work well with the general look of the B5 Universe ships. If you're going to go 'clunky and ugly', go Earth Alliance -- the flying bricks, complete with howitzers. > >Michael > >The Lovely Angels: When it absolutely, positively has >to be destroyed overnight! -- "Eat hot blazing photonic pulse fire, you alien invading human-abducting saucer-alien bastards!" -- Captain of EAS Bellerophon, firing on a Vree cruiser.

>I've been involved with things on the Babylon 5 Wars boardgame >(canonical material, reviewed by JMS or his representative) for years >now, and believe me, there are lots of carriers. I keep waiting for some minor game house to come up with a mod of SC2 for B5W... Oh, that'll be a LOT of fun... ^_^ >>Of course, there is always the carriers from Space: Above and >>Beyond. One of the lesser things I've always like about that show was how each race had such an immediately identifieable 'style' to their naval architecture... And while my favorite SHIP may have been the Narn G'Quan, I've always loved Earthforce's STYLE. *drool* Blessed be. Hell yeah. EA ships like the Nova DN, Olympus DD, Artemis FF, these are the soul of "cool through ugliness". I haven't seen the minis yet for the 'new generation' (post-Shadow-War) EA fleet, except for the Warlock, but that one looks like something a Fahrvergneugen-trained naval architect could love - slab-sided, big, bigger guns, BIGGER guns, and lots of cool detail. > >But that's just my two 'grosze' .
