"Lisa's Stocking...."

   Heh. Once again, UF-Gryph shows that not only does he have a sense of humor, but style. Not just coal, but the best coal in the galaxy, darnit!! ^_^

However, though, I think it would have taken Lisa longer to get the joke if it hadn't... err.. come up the night before. ^_^;

And he throws the only party I know of that even the appearance of Death amoungst the guest list doesn't throw a dampner on things. Of course, she WAS off duty at the time, but...

Lots of stuff that created a boggle; quite a bit mentioned elsewhere. Ryoko showing up, but not causing even MORE trouble. Wapiko and the buffet table. Dread Pirate Lisa. Mary Broadbank. Serge. The Exalibur... The name sounds familiar, but I cant remember from where? Doc's family showing up, but Doc Not. The Morisoto Twins. R-Type being Rhianna's dad. Still not knowing just what a Lens can do... but accepting that its powers complement the individuals. Washuu and Red parenting (Foster or otherwise) three of the more distructive individuals in the UF-Verse. Skuld's "You never write, you never call..." to Li.

Somehow, the comment about the Gift of Magic that Clef gave Onion head keeps sticking in my mind... I wonder how that's going to manifest with her lens as well; I have this feeling that's what caused Skuld's "Interesting". Also, given the "She's not ready" comment re: Utena, I have this feeling that it needs to wait till she's finished integrating with Dios. Suddenly, I have this vision of Utena coming into her own and being able to take the rest of the group back with her for the showdown with Ohtihori riiight about the same time that Corwin gets sent on his trial... Also to the tenth world.

Ah well... In the end, all I can say is, I await Resolutions, or whatever the final title to be, with baited breath. Wouldn't matter if it was ready for posting tomorrow or not, I'd still feel like I'd have had to wait forever for it.

   >Exalibur... The name sounds familiar, but I cant remember from where?

The Excalibur was a rather munchkiny fighter from the third Wing Commander game, which I never played (not having a computer that could stand up to Origin Systems' "nothing but the bleeding edge" policies at the time it came out), but which Doc played the dickens out of. Doc really liked the Excalibur, and proceeded to pester me for the following three years or so to include it in UF, which I refused to do out of sheer perversity because he was so... shall we say "committed"... to the notion when I hadn't even played the game. Eventually, he did talk me into letting him include it - but as an overpriced, overcomplicated market failure only of interest to nutcases like Techie, not as the frontline fixed-configuration fighter of the Wedge Defense Force.

Ain't I a stinker? :)

>Doc's family showing up, but Doc Not.

Oh, Doc was around; he just didn't have any lines.

Oh - and it's "Liza", not "Lisa".

Actually, what I had in mind was that the company that made it was riddled with internal problems--e.g., corruption, embezzling, etc. The fighter itself was actually pretty decent...for 2360's standards. The company itself folded, leaving the CEO, one Aric Ajlond, disillusioned and in a mental institution.

After several decades of therapy and getting his life together, Aric still had the two fighters built--although one was basically spare parts. As a gesture of reconciliation, he gave it to Techie, who then proceeded to make it a pet project for the next few years. It's rather like having the fighter equivalent of a '57 Chevy (or an Edsel, if you must be brutal) in your own private hangar, only with tachyon cannons. There've been some nice "guy talk" moments in that hangar between Techie and his son. :-)

One of these days, I'll type down some of this in a formal story--that is, when I get my other umpteen million projects done.

>Ain't I a stinker? :)

No comment. :-)

>Oh, Doc was around; he just didn't have any lines.

We're talking about a time traveler here. If he put his mind to it, he could be anywhere, anytime. However, it's too much of a hassle to keep track of where and when he's supposed to be, so he doesn't use the 4th-dimensional shortcut unless 1) he knows that it'll be okay, or 2) he *really* has to be there.

You may draw your own conclusions from there. :-)

Oh, and one last addendum: The Excalibur may show up again, but in nowhere near a front-line capacity...if I get around to it. ^_^;

Well, let's be fair, Lina isn't all that destructive yet and Ryouko is about 5,000 years out of needing a parent.

O-KAY, pet peeve time, folks.

The word is 'B-A-T-E-D' breath. As in 'abate,' 'to stop.' 'Waiting with bated breath' means you're so excited you can't breathe- not that you've been stealing chum from the seagulls again. }:-{D

Given how bad the spelling is on a lot of websites (not here thankfully) I barely noticed that slip, and I'm generally Mr. Fanatic when it comes down to getting spelling & grammar right. Man that's depressing.

Think of it as a 2 minute minor penalty :)

Warning that you've got a smidge too far... accumulate a few Yellows and you get a Red card, which is an "you've gone a lot too far. stop or be booted" type thing... keep going and you get a Black card, which is summary ejection.

And I thought Gryph didn't like soccer :)

You could be close enough to the truth, and nevertheless it does explain a few things to me. Thankfully though, he's only given me other kinds of warnings about some of my posts.

It's a Soccer (Football for you non Americans :) term - the Ref can issue a Yellow card as a warning for something that goes beyond the normal fouls in the game (tripping, using your hands, offsides :) You only get one yellow card per game - think of it as a technical foul in Basketball, only worse.

AFAIK, here's the scale of cards in Soccer:

Yellow - final warning. If you get another one in the same game, you're out. A second yellow card may also be equivalent to a Red Card.

Red - ejection (and suspension). A red card is immediate ejection from the game, and IIRC suspension from the next game. Red cards are very rare in my experience, since they are usually only issued for very serious offenses such as fighting.

Purple (not sure if these exist) - ejection and long suspension. I've heard of them, but never been able to confirm their existance. Issued for the most serious infractions, you are out of the league for the season (and possibly longer).

Offsides (yes, the nickname is a soccer reference)

That's the rules as I remember from when I started watching soccer during the 1994 World Cup, except that a red card may not necessarily mean suspension from the next game. I only remember seeing one red card issued during that entire tournament, when a goaltender touched the ball with his hands outside his box, forcing that team to finish the game without a goaltender. (Surprisingly, they won.)
