"So... is this normal?"

I recently started playing this out of curiosity, and annoyance with some other MMOs in regards to various features (or lack there of) and, well, is it -typical- to make level 41 in a week and two days? I can appreciate a mild leveling curve, but I keep waiting for the wall I'm conditioned to expect from all other MMOs.

In terms of xp and levelling, you tend to hit 50 with only some casual gaming these days. Hell, the entire month leading up to Delta Rising has an xp boost running, so it's going to be even crazier.

The wall hits at level 50 (Soon to be 60), when you stop levelling normally and the reputation system unlocks. The runs slower, because there's a limit to how much each Reputation tree can level per day, but since season 9 came out, that's simply a matter of doing a tiny mission connected to that Rep and then spending the marks on the daily. You get enough marks from that to run about two and a half dailies, so it turns into five minutes work, if that. You'll unlock a few new traits every few days, followed by a special skill after about a month. From there on, the only thing that matters is gear, and unless you're PvPing or really obsessive over the Elite level PvE missions, that tends to be more 'oh look, I can use this shiny thing now' then anything else.

Pretty much this. Heck, I just leveled 2 alts using nothing but doff mission and the academy dailies after level 11, and a few missions to finish them off at 50.

As for the wall, again, yes, it hits at 50, with all the reps. There is also a wall with crafting right now, that you hit after level 10 in a school.

After Delta Rising hits, I think that the wall will still be at 50. Unless there are some large changes on Tribble, unlike the story missions below 50, the story missions above 50 will take more xp than just running the previous mission. In other words, be prepared to grind xp in order to run the next story line mission. This is probably how Cryptic is going to make the new story missions "last." At least as things stand now.

I won't fight you Atton.
I don't care, I just want you to die.

I seriously doubt it. Cryptic ran the story missions like that back in the early days, and to say the feedback was negative is understating the issue considerably.

You were not exaggerating the boost effect. I got a Romulan captain to 50 over a weekend (and spent most of the Saturday not home so... yeah.) Makes it easier to get decent Mk XI freebie gear at least.

Admittedly, it's not quite such a big deal with the new expansion hitting in three weeks. But a lot of the fun is rising through the ranks, and you get XP fast enough without the boost that it seems silly. Especially if you play with the doff system.
