Except that it looses some of its potency, seeing as how every post shows your total number of posts rather than what number of your's this was. I mean... seeing 668 posts under your name just doesn;t carry the same weight, since you posted twice after this one. ___________________ Vaughn doesn't know I exist. >Yeah, well, I was catching up with you for a long time. I probably >would have, too, if I ever posted in the UF boards more than once per >thread. I noticed. On looking around a bit, I realized that the only person on the boards with a higher post count than me is Gryph (who posts three times to my one). Zoner was ahead of me, but he hasn't been posting lately. Not that I really care; post count dicksize is about as juvenile as you can get, superceding even "first post" competitions. The only reason I was paying attention to my post count at all was because, since I was in the 200's before I even registered the post count feature (thus missing any special comment on posts 42 and 69), I wanted to say something when I got to 666. Now that I've passed that milestone, I probably won't even look except to periodically check if I've hit 4 digits yet. -- Sean -- http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! There, it only made slightly more sense; they had a ranking system based off of how many posts you had under your belt. So if you had no life, you could make yourself feel better by posting to the forums constantly. Actually, I think that described a lot of people who posted there. -Eliot "Thankfully, no such feature exists on these boards" Lefebvre -=()=- We're only given a little time in our lives to waste. I prefer when said "ranks" are more sarcastic and insulting as you progress further, from, say, "Newbie" (0 - 50 posts) to "Officially Needs To Get A Life" (250+). (That's what I remember of the ranking system at wilwheaton.net's "soapbox" forum, which ran on ikonboard, and has been dead for some time.) ikonboard also adds little balls under your handle on the board, each one representing 50 posts, and denoting your rank thusly. Personally, I fail to see any significance to post count; I'm mostly just amused at seeing my own, and fail to see any reason to give a damn about anyone else's. -- Sean -- http://www.thebrokenlink.org The Broken Link 4.0 is live! I actually don't much like that style of board - the reply trees simply don't exist, so any given thread winds up with lots of posts that have to have references hunted down. Which is part of the reason why I haven't bothered to register for MegaTokyo's boards. If I was ever to get my own discussion board (I've considered it more than once), I'd probably shoot for DCForum. There was a free script a while ago that I used with some of the same features, but it had some serious faults and was a little buggy besides. >Personally, I fail to see any significance to post count; I'm mostly >just amused at seeing my own, and fail to see any reason to give a >damn about anyone else's. It's more about what you post than how often you post it. Personally, I just find post counts amusing; you can tell the people who haven't been doing anything but hunting for topics to reply to. Also, I'm waiting to get to 666 myself. ;> -Eliot "Ah, well, message boards are kind of a waste of time in any event" Lefebvre -=()=- We're only given a little time in our lives to waste.
