"It occurs to me to ask..."

   With all the bands running around, where are the villains' bands? Because their taste in music hardly ever shows up in the story (except for Ragulin, but his was the entire point).

The only other time I remember it brought up was in Valiant Rose, where Sheridan quietly enjoyed the music in the Goldfish Warning, but that was to show that he wasn't a bad person, just on the wrong side.

Is it wrong that I want to see the Magnificent Ten rocking a stage (with actual good music) as part of their schemes? Or maybe a Battle of the Bands with the fate of a world at stake?

You just described BrĂ¼tal Legend. Which is not a bad thing! Though I don't think it'd quite fit in UF's mileau...

   Now Trigon opened up his case and he said, "Now, don't go far."
Black lightning flew from his fingertips as he tuned up his guitar
And he plugged his axe into his amp and it made an evil hiss
Then a band of demons joined on in and it sounded something like this:

When Trigon finished, Kaitlyn said, "Well, you're pretty good, old son,
But sit down in that chair right there and let me show you how it's done."

   This is either facepalm-worthy or an epic battle in the making.

Possibly both at once.

...Ok, I kind of had to. It got into my head. With apologies to C. Daniels and Gryphon:

A demon came up to Asgaard
Who had been feelin' really mean;
He'd been feelin' low so he had to go
Up top there to make a scene.
He came across this young girl shredding on a Strat and playin' it sweet
So the demon spied from his hellish ride, shouting "Well howdy there, fresh meat!
I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a guitar player too
And if you ain't afeared of somethin' wierd I'll make a bet with you:
You shred a pretty mean line, my lass, but give this demon his due;
I'll bet this Stratocaster to be your master 'cuz I think I'm better'n you."

The girl whose name was Kaitlin didn't turn a hair in dread,
But she set her axe down in the grass, cooly stared, and nodded her head.

Well, Katy, tune your axe up good and crank the amp up high;
For Trigon's come from Muspelheim, the man who wouldn't die;
And if you win you get a bright new shiny stratocaster;
But if you lose the demon is your master....

"Sweet Child o' Mine" "Stairway to Heaven"
Playin' six strings just like they were seven;
"Highway star" but turned kinda metal;
And then "Sympathy for the Devil"

Well, Trigon bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat;
And laid that slick new Stratocaster down by Kaitlin's feet.
Katy said, "Trigon, just come on back if you think you've got the guts;
For the Duelists can, both woman and man, all kick your musical butts."
And she played,

"Sweet Child o' Mine" "Stairway to Heaven"
Playin' six strings just like they were seven;
"Highway star" but turned kinda metal;
And then "Sympathy for the Devil"

   I do not wish to disparage your efforts; however, Kaitlyn wishes me to note for the record that

a) She already has a Stratocaster and would be unlikely to risk her mortal(?) soul for another one (though for internal rhyme purposes, one supposes you kind of had to - "I'll bet this custom lefty '57 Goldtop Les Paul" doesn't scan or rhyme with anything useful.)

b) "Sweet Child o' Mine"? Seriously, dude? Again, I'll give you "Stairway to Heaven" because you had to make the rhyme work, though I should think you could've gotten something happening with "Sultans of Swing" and "string" there, but, I mean...

:)

Hey, by the time it becomes a song, any such incident would be folklore and, as such, the details would end up being changed a bit. And "battle of the Strats" does kind of have a resonance in it; that way, the battle's one of skill, not of one club's favorite instrument over another.

And yeah, 'Sweet Child o' Mine' is perhaps a bit weak in context. So...

"Stairway to Heaven" and "Sultans of Swing"
Layin' it down hard with all six strings;
"Highway star" but turned kinda metal;
And then "Sympathy for the Devil"

...howzat?

   Steve Ouimette's Speed Metal cover of The Devil Went Down To Georgia (from Guitar Hero 3) is probably the closest we'll ever get to hearing this in real life. http://youtu.be/YlaicBjFfVc

   Well, there are a few problems.

1. HYDRA hasn't been the same since that abortive "Cold Slither" experiment.
2. Akio keeps setting his villainous harpsichord on fire by accident.
3. And the Mekon actually prefer polka.

That being said, Surtur actually has a box reserved at every Metalpocalypse concert.

Thank you! Cold Slither was one of the first things that came to my head, but I wasn't sure who would do it in UF.

You're welcome. GI JOE has sort of been absorbed into the Salusian forces, so I figured one good serpent-themed terrorist organization deserves another, and Gryph has never used Kobra.

(There's actually precedent, since GI JOE started out as a SHIELD spinoff called FURY FORCE, back in the day).

Baron Strucker once went undercover as a dentist, but refuses to explain why he occasionally shouts "HY-DRA-LALALALALALA!!!!!" in his sleep.
