Amusing bit of trivia: The actor who played Bob on the show is an American. The actor who played Harry, OTOH, is English. The gag goes that when the cameras went on, they swapped accents. :) Mario |

LAST EDITED ON Nov-13-12 AT 08:49 PM (EST) >Book four, Summer Knight, is where he starts to change up his writing >style. Its a lot less boring with better intrigue and sleuthing. The >first few books were a pain to get through. it's reminiscent of UF in that regard... the early books are his early works, and he's improved with each volume.... though when you realize in book 12 or so that all of the first showed up in [CENSORED], it's impressive that he seems to have planned this whole thing out to an extent and isn't making it up as he goes to be a money tree-Z --- Remember kids: guns make you stupid, duct tape makes you smart.

>I've been a Harry Dresden fan for quite some time. I'm just waiting >for Gryph to use him as a Jedi Knight (complete with a holocron named >"Bob" :) ) I finally figured out why this was annoying me. Why on earth would (if he were going to put him in) gryphon make him a Jedi knight? It's not like there aren't other wizards, and especially in the later books, Harry is already hanging out with Odin. -- -Pasha What was that feeling again? Oh yes. -Rage- |

Well, I chose the Jedi Knights for a few reasons: 1) While there are a few magic users in UF, most of them aren't the spell-slinging sort. Not a lot of zap-kaboom. :) 2) The idea Butcher uses of black magic being a corrupting influence fits very well with the Dark Side. 2) Harry works best when he has authority figures to annoy. I can just picture him showing up for a Jedi Council meeting in a bathrobe & fuzzy slippers... But yeah, IF Gryph chose to use him, he could do whatever her wanted. I was just brainstorming. (I did the same for the New Gods once. I get bored a lot...) Mario |

Just finished it last night. Not as earth-shattering as Changes, but the story is moving along and I think Butcher managed another home run here. My only problem with the book is a moment when Butcher (through Harry) gets up on a soapbox on some social issues. (You'll know it when you see it). I don't disagree with his opinion, but it felt out of place. Still, that's only one page in a pretty good book. |

I wasn't feeling the love on this one. The setup was mostly obvious from the start, and the ending wasn't much of a surprise either. I'm down with foreshadowing, but really, the whole damn thing seemed about as interesting as a run through Wolfenstein Castle...about 10 years after you first mastered it. and seriously, the pro-gay lifestyle pitch? awkward. I can't tell if that was supposed to be awkward, supposed to be in character, or if he basically realized he needed to say something positive about gay people before using a cruising site for a scene. And seriously, cruising site a cold, windy, lake front area? In 2012? I realize the internet might be awkward for Harry, but for everyone else... disappointed, t. caveat: the writing is better that before. Butcher is clearly looking to Chandler - at least in his "confrontation" scenes. Now I wish he'd take a clue from Hammett on pacing and plotting. Trigger Argee Manon, Maccadon, Orado, etc. Denton, never leave home without it. "This isn't exactly the Olympic Games." - Corwin of Amber |
