"The experience of a lifetime"

LAST EDITED ON Nov-18-12 AT 07:44 PM (EST)

This morning, at 7:32am, I delivered my son, in the front seat of my car, on the side of the PA Turnpike. I'm still a bit in shock about it, but that's not the craziest part. If you Google "baby born pa turnpike", that's us. All 4 local news stations, the local paper, and the AP newswire! Not what I was expecting when my wife woke me up this morning...

Mom is fine, baby is in the NICU for mostly precautionary reasons at this point, but doing well.

Now I just need to get my car autoclaved...

EDIT: My wife has been discharged, but Bradley is staying an extra night for observation just in case. He's gotten all the tubes out though, and all indications are he's perfectly healthy and will come home tomorrow.

EDIT2: We're all home, and life is good.

Yeah, googled like you said. The several reports I read through don't mention names, but do show a shot of your car and do mention the hospital your wife is in.

As an aside, my Dad's from Norristown....

Is this something that would be reported to Carfax? ;)

Anyway, congrats are in order, pass out the virtual cigars, and prepare to spend the next several years operating on a lot less sleep then you have been getting.... :)

Later!

Yeah, this. Gonna be a great story for the grandkids (and well before that, every girlfriend he brings home).

“They planned their campaigns just as you might make a splendid piece of harness. It looks very well; and answers very well; until it gets broken; and then you are done for. Now I made my campaigns of ropes. If anything went wrong, I tied a knot; and went on.”

Apparently our 15 minutes of fame isn't up yet. The Hospital PR director came to us today and said that at least 2 news stations still wanted to talk to us, and one of them had a van just hanging out in the parking lot. After some discussion, we did an off-camera interview and gave them a photo of the three of us in the NICU (not that you could really tell, but Bradley (my son) still has a few tubes and wires attached) to use for the story. It aired on the 6 o'clock news, as the teaser before cutting to commercial and then immediately after they came back. All in all, not a bad story, and almost 100% accurate too!

The story and video is here: http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Turnpike-Rush-Hour-Baby-Bradley-179737641.html

Glad to hear the wife and kidlet are doing well, especially after the impromptu turnpike delivery.
