"Warframe"

Space ninjas against space pirates (Grineer), space salvage merchants (Corpus) and zerg (Infested). And a few other things. Warframe is PvE, from one to four player co-op against various computer controlled enemies in a variety of mission types. It's definitely a grindy progression kind of game. I've seen it described as Monster Hunter with more fun combat.

Did I mention space ninjas?

This one's a free to play game that you don't need to pay to win. Everything that you could pay real money for can be had in-game with the exception of cosmetic stuff. The primary purpose of real money, aside from turning a profit for Digital Extremes, is to do things faster. For example, most weapons take 12-24 hours to make while warframes take 3.5 days. Paying real money gets you them almost immediately after you click the "pay" button.

The primary mechanic that keeps the game from being pay to win is called Mastery. As you earn affinity (experience) with different warframes and weapons you also earn Mastery points for your account. Since affinity levels cap at 30 you have to play with lots of weapons and several warframes to unlock the best weapons in the game. It doesn't matter how much money you want to spend; the game simply won't let you buy or make top tier weapons until your account's Mastery level is high enough for them.

Hmm. It's an intriguing concept, and I like that letting other people ruin your gamemultiplayer is optional. Not wild about the art style, though. Still, I may try it out after I get bored of beating my head against World of Tanks or War Thunder.

If you decide to try it out there are a couple of quick-start guides that do a better job than DE's quick start guide. This one in particular is a good place to begin, particularly with what to do with your starting 50 platinum (every account starts with 50 "free" plat):

https://azmytheconomics.wordpress.com/2013/09/20/warframe-beginner-guide/

and this which explains how the different damage types affect the different enemies:

https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/134176-explained-damage-20-builds-with-cheatsheets/

Don't worry about the damage stuff early on. The armor and shields on the first few planets are so low that even "bad" weapons are effective.

If you do decide to try it out, let us know. The community in general is fairly helpful, but having experienced players guide you through the learning process can make the learning curve a lot easier. I'm generally on most afternoons after work. If you're not a fan of dealing with Steam, you can get the game directly from the official site without using the Steam interface.

I've posted elsewhere in the forums about Warframe (quoting here for emphasis).

"Personally I've sunk the last year and a half into a free-to-play called Warframe. You take the basic play style of Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer, throw in over a dozen mission types, randomly generated maps using over 20 tile sets, 24 different characters (and 10 deluxe "Prime" versions with slightly improved stats), over 200 weapons, over 500 mods to collect to customize your loadout, and then add in an amped up version of Mirror's Edge's free running. There's even outer space missions using flight packs called Archwings. It's still technically in Open Beta even after two years because the Dev team is constantly updating and tweaking the game and adding in new content. It's completely free-to-play, the only thing that can't be earned in game is cosmetic items, and even then you can farm for rare items and trade them to other players for the premium currency."

What's your username in Warframe (also what platform, I'm on PC)? Mine is DaftTechno.

ratinoxone (also my Steam handle) on PC.

I guess I missed the other post. I tend to skim the forum.

But yeah, the game is open beta much like everything from Google is open beta: it works but it's a moving target under almost constant development and improvement. Witness Damage 2.0 (how the combat mechanics work), Spy 2.0 (how infiltration missions work), Movement 2.0 (space ninja Parkour for the win), etc.
