"Wedgitating"
|
I wasn't originally planning on posting this, since _most_ of the people who are Eyrie fans probably kinda-sorta keep up with the home of UF (IE WPI), but noticing the people from legendary, far-away places like New Mexico, I thought I should break the bad news: With the advent of WPI's shiny new campus center, the Wedge is going to be torn out and replaced with offices. Sorry if everyone already knew that. -Craig |

i was thinking and stuff and i sort of remember wpi back in the uf time (i was only in middle school then) and a lot has changed, but the wedge still remains. the past week or so since the campus center has opened, there has been a lot less wedgerats in the wedge but we do return at 12 when they kick us out of the campus center. i don't think that the wedge will die and that after the initial effects of the campus center opening is over, more people will return to the wedge. they are most likely getting rid of the lower wedge, but i don't think they are getting rid of the upper wedge. if they do, we need to fight to keep it. >With the advent of WPI's shiny new campus center, the Wedge is going >to be torn out and replaced with offices. Ah, well, it doesn't really matter - the Wedge hasn't been the Wedge since all the integral furniture was torn out and replaced with modular lounge furniture (which was immediately stolen by students living in Morgan, Daniels, and the apartments) several years ago... --G. -><- Benjamin D. >Yes, I never saw the bowling-alley furniture, and it seems that >_nobody_took_pictures_. Well, how were we to know it was going to be of historical significance? :) Besides, nobody thought they'd ever remodel the Wedge. I mean, it was the -Wedge-, for pete's sake... who would ever have thought that WPI would CHANGE? The Ellsworth and Fuller apartments were built as 18-month temporary housing in 1973! --G. -><- Benjamin D. PS: disregard the disgruntled soon-to-be-former college student, he isn't as well armed as most high school students seem to be these days. |

>Yes, I never saw the bowling-alley furniture, and it seems that >_nobody_took_pictures_. Well, I'll be damned. I just ran upstairs to thumb through my photo albums, which I knew contained some snapshots of a LARP-in-progress taking place in the Wedge... ...and every single one of them was taken in the Lower Wedge. Weird. Eerie. --truss.

Well, what can I say about that? Strange demons possessed all the cameras... the 'Wedge Hole' cannot be photographed, for Wedge Gravity (the art of never excaping the Wedge... and it is an art) allows no photographs to escape. -Craig |

>Eerie or Eyrie? ;-) *insert varying "The Wedge Watches Us All" >statement here* Well, it WAS kinda triangular in shape... I never saw any eye-shaped things in it, but they could have been hidden.... LAST EDITED ON Apr-12-01 AT 03:24 PM (EDT) Ah! I -knew- I had these pictures still around... Dating from 1993 (which is near enough to the events of UF 1 for government work), here are some images from the Fall WPI Journal that one of my old teachers recieved: -- an overhead color shot of the WPI campus (the Wedge is the building on the left-hand side between the l-shaped building and the rectangular building above the grouping of smaller housing)
-- a greyscale overhead shot that's unfortunately moire'd (prolly should rescan one of these days) where the Wedge can be seen in all its trapezoidal glory.
