Pick a couple of traits the fandom has picked up on/invented entirely and focus near-exclusively on those when doing the romance stuff, writing any mistakes off as "love changes people". Most people won't notice any oddities, and you'll have an army of screeching defenders for the people who do. A few of my friends used to be really into Drarry, and I'm too cheap to get people proper birthday presents, so... yeah. I know more about this than is probably healthy. --- "She's old, she's lame, she's barren too, // "She's not worth feed or hay, // "But I'll give her this," - he blew smoke at me - // "She was something in her day." -- Garnet Rogers, Small Victory FiMFiction.net: we might accept blatant porn involving the cast of My Little Pony but as God is my witness we have standards. |

>... for the record: > >Rule 34 is all well and good, but it is an uphill god damn slog to >consume if you still want everyone to be acting in character. My better half has this issue with a lot of fic. And not just Rule 34, but also gen (i.e. not explicit) fic that also involves non-canon romantic relationships. Me, I barely read fanfic any more. I hardly have time to consume the original fiction I want, let alone trying to sift through the collective output of fandom in search of gems hidden among raw sewage.
