"The Stig Identity"

Just saw the TG episode where the Stig is revealed this weekend, (got into TG after reading the forums), and was just wondering what G's feelings, and the feelings of people in general, about him being revealed, since AFAIK it hasn't been discussed here.

I thought the whole mysterious thing was better, myself.

If it was the one with Mario Andretti, that was a joke. He's one of the giant names of F1 driving.

If it's the episode I'm thinking of (and I believe I've seen all of them), it was Michael Schumacher they did that with, and yes, it was a joke. Actually, it was a couple of jokes, since they were simultaneously making fun of the fandom's constant efforts to identify the Stig and Schumacher's legendary lack of any sense of humor. In the following episode they "revealed" that Schumacher couldn't possibly be the Stig. Unless he was. It was a running joke that popped up several times over the course of that particular series.

In behind-the-scenes terms, I doubt the Stig is always the same person.

Well techincally, Schumacher was the Stig for that one episode since he drove his own Ferrari around the test track dressed as him, but the point stands. Even Lewis Hamilton at one time was thought to be the Stig which they joked about when he made an appearance on the show. Personally I never cared to know who he is, I like his air of mystery.

Ah. Like I said, just getting into it now, so still picking up on everything.

Just due to the variation in cars they have on there, you'd almost have to have a different driver who can squeeze the most out of that particular car. On the other hand, the times would be more meaningful if its the same driver every time.

Some say he's a dedicated team of professionals, and that if you measure him from head to toe, you never get the same measurement twice...

"The Stig Identity." Okay, come on, who couldn't see that being a summer blockbuster movie? The Stig, found drifting in the ocean and suffering from total amnesia, embarks on a dangerous quest to find out who he is, relying on his legendary driving skills, his cat-like reflexes, and love of fine dining to defeat the men sent by his former boss to kill him and cover up his failed mission.

I'm sorry, but before the blockbuster movie, there needs to be a novel, followed by a TV movie a decade later, followed, finally, two decades later, by the blockbuster. ;-p

I'm not sure that would work. You see, the greatness that is The Stig simply cannot be conveyed through text, it must be seen in order to attain its true brilliance.

He was referencing how Robert Ludlum (I think)'s Bourne trilogy came into being. No reference-cookies for thee.

*Holds up his copies of the novels* Kinda figured. I had hoped sarcasm tags were unnecessary in my last post.

Yes, exactly. Though CdrMike's response was quite amusing, too.
