"Dangers of the Business dep't"

One of the hazards of doing a relatively-near-future story, the sort that refers "back" to stuff that happened somewhat less far in, but still in, the future, is that occasionally real-world developments will come along and anachronize bits.

That was a rather unexpected, yep.

OTOH, knowing how well FASA/Fanpro/What Are We This Week Again? manage their IP, I suppose it's quite possible they'll get sued again in the near future. :)

Actually, Fanpro/Catalyst has been doing great with their new material (aside from the stuff they can't control, like Topps imploding and delaying books for months). Plus, the new books are _hardcover_, which means they wont disintegrate like my old copy of the BT Master Rules.

Also, the new Shadowrun 20th Anniversary Edition core book is one sexy beast (I want it _NOW_. Srsly.)

They're back for the 25th anniversary. I can see Harmony Gold throwing another tantrum between now and the 40th anniversary. It's what they do best :)

Got to talk to the Catalyst guys for a bit at Origins today, they are super-pumped about it, and said there was a lot of research that went into making sure they used the 'proper' design specs, as there were multiple variants of the design out there from all the various liscensees over the years. They also said that they tried to make the specs fit the design much better, no more 'well that looks like a gun pod, but its really an antenna' that some of the adapted designs had.

Catalyst ALSO had 12 of the old battle center pods at Origins, with 12 player deathmatches ensuing, with the action displayed on a big screen. They said that 8 of the pods used to be in the Chicago center, and the other 4 were from Michigan. Seeing all those pods lined up was a thing of beauty. The deathmatches were too.

As one of the rejoicing folks, it feels good to see they're on their way back into the artwork.

Wanderer loves him some oldschool Dougram/Macross art-style 'Mechs.

While some of the Project Phoenix redesigns were good (Thunderbolt, Imma looking at you - mostly because I was a Steiner T-Bolt driver in the last mechwarrior game we did), I much preferred the macross style Rifleman/Warhammer/Archer.

All I can say is YES! CGL has been doing a bang-up job since they took over the licence (Fanpro did a good job, and kept the game alive) The Unseen are back, as Legands!

I'm slightly suspicious; that's a Warhammer, and the deal to get the Unseen back into the game has been done for... what... a week? That's some speedy modeling. Sure, they might've known about it in advance, but who goes to that kind of trouble and effort in anticipation of something that isn't official yet? On the other hand, if it's an unauthorized fan film, they did a great job on it.

Or possibly it's been a done deal for weeks or months, and they were deliberately keeping it under their hats for 'wham' value.

...Granted, I'd've waited to confirm it until the new books were on the shelves, but it's possible I take too many cues from Bungie. ^_^

What I really notice, personally, is the date of 3015, which strikes me as a far less irritating way of getting back to basic gameplay than the ClickyTech 'Dark Age' backstory.

My understanding is that it is what they've put together to use for selling the deal to backers. Probably not spur of the moment so I imagine that there was foreknowledge of it.

OTOH, so far as I understand it, that's pretty much what there is at the moment.

Considering one of the folks who helped make that is Jordan Weisman, it's legit. This isn't Mechwarrior 5, it's a reboot of the series (they're using the Unreal 3 engine for it).

They're putting it up to make buzz for a new game. That they can use the "Unseen" to do it? Win.

On top of that, it'll come with -all- the add-ons. Mechpaks, extra scenarios, The Works. Free of charge.

Pity my old Sidewinder stick died. Between this and a possible new game, I'm gonna want one.
