Among her many talents, Kiyoshimo can sing all of Musashi's parts from the New Yokosuka Opera Society's 2408 production of The Pirates of Penzance. She has a very low vocal range for a destroyer.I am the very model of a modern dreadnought battleship My armor is the equal of a dozen tin-can cattle ships' I know the admirals of yore and quote the fights historical From Tsushima to Leyte Gulf in order categorical; I'm very well-acquainted too with matters mathematical I understand equations both the simple and quadratical About the latest gunlaying I'm teeming with a lot of news With many cheerful facts about the square of the hypotenuseI'm very good at integral and differential calculus (You have to be to hit your foe at ranges this miraculous) In short, in all things naval and/or depending on seamanship I am the very model of a modern dreadnought battleship. --G. -><- Benjamin D. INT. STEEL FACTORY. NAGATO, FUBUKI, and KAGA stand over a vat of molten steel, KAGA cradling an injured arm and NAGATO sporting numerous injuries including half an arm gone at the elbow. NAGATO looks to a crying FUBUKI with a dour expression. NAGATO I know now why you cry. NAGATO wipes away one of FUBUKI's tears with her remaining hand. Fun fact: the English word "death" phoneticizes into Japanese as "desu", leading to Inazuma's verbal tic being translated "nanodeath" when she is depicted in the process of doing murder (which, well, she's a warship, that happens). (It's also the catchphrase of her evil fandom alter-ego, Plasma-chan, but man alive, you know how fandom likes to over-use jokes? Yeah.) --G. I think it's a little too precious, anyway, so when I see her pictured, e.g., bludgeoning an Abyssal destroyer to death with her anchor, I mentally tag it, "Here's that asskicking you ordered nanodesu." -><- Benjamin D. And now, we loop back to the original post for a moment... "Today nanodesu. Today... at the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other nanodesu. Today there is not a destroyer nor battleship in here that shall stand alone. Not today nanodesu. Today we face the monsters that are at our door, and bring the fight to them. Today, we are canceling the apocalypse nanodesu!" Peter Eng -- Insert humorous comment here. |

>Sips is the best guy, the real guy. His GTA play style is mainly what I had in mind when I pictured Yui trying to play it. "OK, so what was I--right, the mission, I need to get uptown. OK. The Real Genius bits seem to have gotten lost (must have been in the thread I accidentally assassinated earlier toninght), but remembering the scene immediately before the Laszlo-in-the-closet bit caused my mental video editing suite to rejig things with different ships.
SHOUKAKU I was here for a second this morning... AKAGI You didn't straighten up the place, did you? SHOUKAKU No. AKAGI Good. Because all my filth is in alphabetical order. (Holds up an experimental flight deck catapult.) This, for example, was under H for "toy". SHOUKAKU What is that? AKAGI This? It's a breast enlarger. You want to try it? SHOUKAKU No! AKAGI I'm kidding. It's yet another in a long series of diversions in an attempt to avoid responsibility. (She gets out a crossbow bolt-lookin' thing and starts loading the catapult.) SHOUKAKU I, uh... dropped off my luggage and now all my bags are empty. AKAGI (ignoring her) You see, Shoukaku, I used to be you. She fires the catapult; the bolt transmutes into a tiny Aichi D3A Type 99 Carrier Bomber (Allied reporting name: "Val"), which starts flying around the room. AKAGI And, uh, lately I've been missing me, so I asked Admiral if I could room with me again, and he said sure, so... I put all your stuff away in the bottom drawer there, gi, hakama, muneate, I had a little trouble with the propeller boots, so I threw them out. Duck! SHOUKAKU ducks; the VAL flies through where her head just was. AKAGI Nice reflexes! I'm fleet carrier Akagi. SHOUKAKU (horrified) Oh no. AKAGI Oh yes! Duck again! The VAL swoops through SHOUKAKU's space again, then crashes through the window and disappears outside. AKAGI runs to the window and looks outside. AKAGI Oh my God! She turns to SHOUKAKU. It's heading for the gas tanks. Duck! Both carriers hit the deck. AKAGI (conversationally) Would you classify that as a launch problem or a design problem? --G. YŪDACHI (with a note of wonder in her voice) There is a complete hole-poi. -><- Benjamin D. Ext. night. The ruins of NEW YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE. A large number of ships, some with damaged rigging, have gathered in the water just off the burned-out shell of the Armory. In the background, the glare of fires and parachute flares barely illuminates conventional naval forces fighting a losing battle against a GIANT SERPENT. They look grim, determined, some in pain, but all unbowed. NAGATO faces the formation. One of her turrets is wrecked and her headgear is askew; a bandage encircles her head, covering one eye. Supplementing her usual rigging, she's carrying a katana at her side. NAGATO My friends, this is it. Even in our sorry state, we are the last line of defense. The only hope. We know how this ends. We've faced it before. But we didn't blink then, and we won't blink now! She gets a slightly faraway look in her eye and goes on in a hushed voice, while the fleet attends raptly. NAGATO Though much is taken, much abides; and though We are not now that strength which in old days Moved Earth and Heaven, that which we are, we are: She clenches a fist at her side, raising her voice steadily as she continues. NAGATO One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find— She raises the fist above her head and finishes in a ringing shout. NAGATO —and not to yield! The other ships CHEER. NAGATO draws her sword and brandishes it over her head. NAGATO So prepare yourselves, shipmates—for tonight we dine in Hel! Near the front of the throng, AKAGI perks up. AKAGI Do they have yakisoba? SFX: RECORD SCRATCH Everyone STARES at her in blank astonishment for a beat; then the entire fleet BREAKS UP laughing. DIRECTOR'S VOICE (off-camera) Cut! Goddammit, Akagi! —outtake from the filming of Ten-Rei-Gō Monogatari (Operation Heaven Zero Story), a wildly fictionalized account of the IJN Einherjar role in the Ragnarök --G. the sound effect came from Naka's Fairlight CMI synthesizer fairy -><- Benjamin D. LAST EDITED ON Jan-11-17 AT 11:01 PM (EST) Ext. day. A waterfront, besieged by ABYSSAL FORCES. A small group of DESTROYERS is doing what they can, but it isn't much against an onslaught of this magnitude.USHIO pushes her way through the line until she can talk to AKEBONO without shouting. USHIO It's going to be an hour before they can scramble the Coast Guard. AKEBONO Coast Guard?! Does the shitty Admiral know what's happening here? USHIO (helplessly) Do we? IOWA suddenly appears on top the wrecked coal bunker next to AKEBONO and USHIO, startling them both. IOWA (briskly, pointing with two fingers) You need ships covering these slipways. There are civilian ships getting under way and they're going to be steaming right into the line of fire. You take them into the canals or the rivers, you keep them out of the harbor. I need a perimeter as far out as Governor's Island. AKEBONO (baffled) Why in the hell should I take orders from you?! Before IOWA can answer, they are set upon by a pair of RI-CLASS HEAVY CRUISERS and an ELITE RU-CLASS BATTLESHIP. As USHIO and AKEBONO watch in mute astonishment, IOWA annihilates one of the RI-CLASS with a broadside from her #1 and #2 turrets, cripples the second RI-CLASS with #3 turret, and peppers the RU-CLASS with her secondaries, then finishes them both off with some bare-knuckled CQC, ripping off one of the RU-CLASS's cannon/shield array arms and beating her down with it as a sort of final remark. AKEBONO blinks, her face completely blank, then turns to the other DESTROYERS as if nothing had happened. AKEBONO I need ships in those channels, lead the civilians back and away from the harbor. We're going to set up a perimeter all the way out to Governor's Island. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Int. day. WO-CLASS stands smirking as she closes the hatch that the holding cell containing BISMARCK just fell through, while OOYODO is sitting against a wall and cradling EXPERIMENTAL RIG as she slowly bleeds out. OOYODO You're going to lose. WO-CLASS turns around to regard the dying light cruiser, her smirk growing into a toothy grin. WO Wo? ("Am I?") OOYODO It's in your nature. Also, you just made me picture Yūbari slapping Bismarck cheerfully on the biceps and remarking, "No hard feelings, Point Break, you got a mean swing," before pointing at one of the destroyers (I'm thinking maybe... hmm, who's a confirmed goldbricker? Hatsuyuki, I think) and declaring, "That girl is playing Galaga. Didn't think we'd notice; but we did." Also also, YŪBARI (holding a hand over her left eye) How does TenryŪ even see these things? TAKAO (unamused) She turns. YŪBARI Sounds exhausting. and furthermore ADMIRAL The Admiralty Board has made its decision. TENRYŪ (folding arms) I recognize that the Board has made a decision. But since it's a stupid-ass decision, I have chosen to ignore it. --G. -><- Benjamin D. >Yodo, nooo :( I actually had a hard time deciding who would work well for Coulson's role. Then I remembered Ooyodo's completely deadpan expression when she was glomped by Kongo and the decision was made. In her honor... Ext. day. TENRYŪ has just finished giving YŪBARI a suitcase of files and film from AKASHI to search for a cure to her palladium poisoning, leaving her in the care of OOYODO. OOYODO (matter of factly) If you try to escape, or play any sort of games with me, I will taze you and watch "Supernanny" while you drool into the carpet. Okay? Decided to split this off from the original Kancolle/Avengers thread... DAY. INT. IOWA has been brought by a pair of CHI-CLASS soldiers to the office of BATTLESHIP PRINCESS BATTLESHIP PRINCESS Arrogance may not be a uniquely American trait, but I must say, you do it better than anyone. But there are limits to what even you can do, Captain, or did Erskine tell you otherwise? IOWA He told me you were insane. BATTLESHIP PRINCESS Ah. He resented my genius and tried to deny me what was rightfully mine, but he gave you everything. So, what made you so special? IOWA (with a cocky grin) Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn.* *Trivia: USS Iowa (BB-61) was built at what was then the New York Naval Shipyard, aka Brooklyn Naval Yard -------------------------- CdrMike, Overwatch Reject "You know, the world could always use more heroes." - Tracer, Overwatch |

LAST EDITED ON Jun-26-22 AT 06:13 PM (EDT) Int. The ARMORY. IOWA is looking over a collection of turret mockups, armored but not fitted with guns.AKASHI This one's fun. It's fitted with electrical relays that allow you to— IOWA picks up a turret casing made of a dully reflective silver metal. IOWA What about this one? AKASHI No, no, that's just a prototype. IOWA What's it made of? AKASHI Vibranium. It's stronger than steel and a third the weight. It's completely vibration-absorbent. IOWA How come it's not standard issue? AKASHI That's the rarest metal on Earth. What you're holding there? That's all we've got. KONGOU walks in, her normally animated face strangely expressionless but for a faint tinge of annoyance. KONGOU Are you quite finished, Akashi? I'm sure Iowa has some unfinished business... IOWA holds up the turret casing. IOWA What do you think? KONGOU considers her coldly for a moment, then manifests her RIGGING. In the background, FAIRIES dive for cover. IOWA blinks in consternation, then ducks hastily behind the turret casing just in time to avoid having her face blown off by the broadside KONGOU unloads into it. The AP shells explode without penetrating, and the shrapnel falls to the floor in front of her in an oddly un-lively manner rather than scattering around the room and killing everybody. When the firing stops, IOWA peeks around the casing to see KONGOU regarding her, her wooden expression unchanged, as smoke curls up from her gun barrels. KONGOU Yes. I think it works, desu. She dismisses her RIGGING and leaves without another word. IOWA and AKASHI stand side by side and watch her go with identical dumbfounded looks. Still gazing after KONGOU, IOWA takes a note from her pocket and hands it to AKASHI, who similarly takes it without looking. IOWA I had some ideas about the uniform. AKASHI Whatever you want, babe. --G. -><- Benjamin D. LAST EDITED ON Jun-27-22 AT 02:32 AM (EDT) TENRYU: BISMARCK, report on SHINANO.BISMARCK: The gates of Hel are filled with the screams of her victims, desu! TENRYU glares at her while SHINANO flushes and puts hides her face behind her BISMARCK: But not the screams of the dead, of course. No, no... wounded screams... mainly whimpering, a great deal of complaining and tales of sprained deltoids and... gout. D. |

TIRPITZ You never said anything about killing anyone.GENERAL TOJO HIDEKI I acquired you to help me start a war! It's a prestigious line of work with a long and glorious tradition. TIRPITZ I just don't think it's right, killing an innocent girl. TOJO (flying into a rage) Am I going mad, or did the word "think" escape your lips? You were not constructed for your brains, you hippopotamic landmass. POLA I agree with Tirpitz. TOJO Oh! The sot has spoken! What happens to the Northern Ocean Princess is not truly your concern. I will kill her. And remember this. Never forget this. When I found you, you were so slobbering drunk you couldn't buy grappa! (Rounding on Tirpitz.) And you! Friendless. Brainless. Helpless. Hopeless. Do you want me to send you back to where you were? Mothballed? In Norway?! --G. What's really funny is that Tojo actually kind of sounded like a Japanese Wallace Shawn. -><- Benjamin D. Pola: But, I promise I will not sink you until you reach the top. Warspite: That's VERY comforting, but I'm afraid you'll just have to wait. Pola: I hate waiting. I could give you my word as a Italian! Warspite: No good. I've known too many Italians. |

Tenryu: She does not get sunk by the sub at this time. Ikazuchi: What? Tenryu: The sub does not get her. I'm explaining this to you because you looked nervous. Ikazuchi: I wasn't nervous. Maybe I was a little bit concerned, but that's not the same thing.

Int. Night. NAGATO, MUTSU, and OOYODO stand around a planning table in the WAR ROOM, talking to the ENTERPRISES on giant video screens. NAGATO It's delusional. The calculations alone would take hundreds of years. ENTERPRISE (CV-80) Oh hundreds... ENTERPRISE (CV-65) And hundreds of years. But don't worry, I started a very long time ago! A new series of figures begin to appear on the horizon, led by a silver-haired shipgirl sporting rigging resembling a sailing ship. ENTERPRISE Calling the War Council of Yokosuka, this is the Enterprise. ENTERPRISE (CV-80) You might say, I've been doing this all my lives! -------------------------- CdrMike, Overwatch Reject "You know, the world could always use more heroes." - Tracer, Overwatch |
