"I'm not lurking anymore, so I suppose..."

Hello. I be Rachie, generally better known in real life as Rachael. For need of a cute nickname (since "Rach" is not an option for me) some people have taken to calling me Rachie. In real life, I'm generally very quiet and nerdish. I like most things sci-fi, fantasy, and anime - in particular, I really like Babylon 5, Utena, Record of Lodoss War, and NGE. I like to draw and do other art-type things and someday I'd like to write and illustrate my own comic books. I also like roleplaying games, animals, classical music and movie soundtracks, garlic, swords, and the color green. I dislike bicycles, the color orange, country music, and cancer. I know, disliking cancer is a given, but as I kind of mentioned in one of my posts somewhere on here, I'm in treatment for cancer, but it's not the kill-you-in-six-months type but the kind that's just a pain in the ass while you go through treatment and then you're okay, so I'll be fine. I live in the currently not-so-frozen wasteland that is Minnesota (hell, GEORGIA has more snow than us), although I'll be making the great journey to distant Wisconsin for college. I'm probably going to major in art, even though most people say it's a waste of time. I did one of the fanarts on the NXE page - the one of Reiliel. I know that she doesn't have four wings, but I'd heard somewhere that cherubim are said to have four wings, and angel wings are just way too fun to draw. I'd like to do some for SotS if I ever find time between my art assignments for school and my overwhelming need for sleep.

I only really got into anime about 3 years ago. A guy who sat next to me in a math class was always wearing a shirt for something called "Neon Genesis Evangelion." It looked interesting, plus there was a girl with blue hair on it (I've always wanted blue hair), so I asked him about it and he loaned me the series. He's now a good friend and I'm forever in his debt for introducing me to the glories of anime :)

The first piece of Eyrie I came across was NXE. I finished it in a few really late nights and then went about recommending it to all my friends (yes, both of them). As opposed to most Eva fics and the canon Eva itself, it actually made me feel better instead of dragging me further into the post-breakup-with-significant-other funk I was in at the time. However, it took me a while to get into UF or any other Eyrie works, since most of the references seemed to come from things I'd never seen, and, with my lack of income, probably wouldn't see for some time. When Symphony of the Sword came out, I checked it out because I liked the name. I'd wanted to see Utena for a while, but I couldn't find it anywhere and didn't have money to buy it anyhow. I'd ignored the spoiler warnings and read the whole Utena synopsis at some site a while before, so I knew what was going on (I've since bought the DVDs available so far and reading the spoilers hasn't really diminished my enjoyment). Since then, I've timidly started to explore the rest of UF. I've also read .45 Caliber Angel and hope that the muse moves Gryphon to continue it some day.

Um... that's about it. I think I've babbled enough.
