"Non-english characters in postes (esp. Mini-Stories)"

I've noticed this a lot lately, and I don't know if there's any good way to fix it, but some of the special characters in posts require me to have firefox in Western (ISO-8859-1 or ISO-8859-15) mode, and some of them require me to have it in Unicode (UTF-8) mode. I'm assuming that's due to either different authors using different character sets when creating, or due to a change at some point over time. I just wish I didn't have to keep telling Firefox to change the encoding manually, since it seems to be really good at guessing the incorrect encoding... :(

I'm pretty sure this is touched on in the Mini-Story forum introduction, but:

The problem is that we changed to Unicode a while back (when the server moved, I think), and the older posts haven't been converted. I believe the new server is configured to tell clients to use Unicode, which is a problem for said older posts. I haven't converted the old posts because a) some, particularly in Featured Documents, are in the archive and can't be edited through the forum interface any more; b) it would create a flood of false "new post" positives, similar to the time a user who shall remain nameless decided to edit every post he ever made in order to change his sigblock, and we all remember how confusing that was; and c) I can't be arsed.

So... at least you know why it happens now. :)

Fair enough - that's more than half of what I was looking for, so thanks!
