"Multimedia WL?"

Two things I'd really like to see are (a) Gryphon's character sheet (since he did say in his intro notes that he actually worked one up; it may need some revision to reflect the plot so far, but still, it'd be cool to see) and (b) an animation of Gryphon the fighting character in his ready stance, a la the animgifs you can see here and there of various Capcom and SNK characters. (Of course, for that, we need someone with the right sort of artistic talent for generating a 'game sprite', or the ability to hack an existing one into submission (is there a better one than Terry "Pizza Boy" Bogard for that, you think, Gryphon?), and some sort of picture reference... but I still think it'd be pretty sweet.)

Hm. Now that I'm thinking of other media for the series: would you pick a particular existing song to be remixed for your 'stage theme', Gryphon, or do you have a more general style preference? \n_n/

I just checked Battle 03: Rapprochement, and there's no theme music for the fight with Ryu. Weird, since I could have sworn that there was theme music for that one. (I know "Sharp Dressed Man" is the background music for the first fight, with Cammy, and there was a background song for the fight with Rose, but I'm not remembering any other music cues for WL, now that I think of it.)

Oh, and Zoner, how long until I have to start harassing you by email to finish WL5 and HL5? ;-P

Don't.

I really don't respond well to that kind of thing, ask Gryph. It actually is one of the best ways to ruin my drive to work on something.

I *had* ideas for them at some point, but I lost my handle on them. I haven't forgotten about them, and I want them done as much as anyone else. Hell, I was the one who poked Gryph periodically all those years HL was dormant, because I didn't want to stop working in it.

Unfortunately I'm not as good a writer as Gryph, and with me I either have the mojo or I don't. If I try to make myself write something when I don't have a good handle, it comes out really quite horrid. Ask Gryph about that UF Exile story I wrote the summer I was trapped in France. I'd post what I did to show how bad it was, except I made sure to delete all copies of it to make sure I never continued it. I basically ended up ripping off The Crow and doing a hideous job of it too.

I've been jealous of Gryph's writing skills for years.

I know the feeling. In between bursts of inspiration I can run for months unable to do anything but wish I could write faster. B-)
I -can- force myself to work, and usually come up with decent things, but often they never see the light of day because they don't feel right to me.
Question: Do you guys actually sit down and plan every creative process to the last detail or do you just sit down, start typing, and see what happens?

Usually the latter. We do a lot of plotting, but the actual creation is willy-nilly, which is one of the reasons it takes so long.

I dunno, I don't like the SNK art style much. Overall, I think the notion's a bit silly, and wasteful of artistic bandwidth that could be put to use drawing something less silly. With freehand art ability at such a premium in EPU, I'm loath to blow it on stuff like animated icons when there's so much character art I'd rather see.

I've toyed around with a few different notions for that, including a couple of techno songs I like (Juno Reactor's "Guardian Angel" and "God is God", the latter of which also appears as Tempest 5000 music in NXE); an odd little number Bono and the Edge of U2 whipped up for the Johnny Mnemonic soundtrack entitled "Alex Descends Into Hell for a Bottle of Milk"; a synthy track called "Stay Toasty" written by a college friend of mine who was offended that I thought it sounded like good videogame music; various other things. I never ran across anything I thought was appropriate enough to bother with.

There is, however, a picture of the RL model for my stage background:

On the right-hand side, you can see about a third of one of the mini-turrets that stand in front of the Tower (that one is, in fact, the one on which Rei and DJ have their quiet scene in Gift of the Magi). There's another one on the left, out of view. The battlefield pans from a bit beyond the one mini-turret to a bit beyond the other.

Fair 'nuf. I was thinking of it as a fanart exercise, not something you'd assign to somebody (besides, you've already said you don't really have anyone on board who'd be good at that sort of thing). And, yes, it'd be silly, but as you may have guessed from my favorite bits of your stories, I like silly. \n_n/ Since you brought it up, though: who would you like to see illustrated? Maybe the fanartists in the audience will oblige...

Oooh. Spiffy.

--Zenigame, who could have sworn he's actually seen a Gryphon character sheet... is he imagining this, or did you have one up at one time?

I don't think so. Not on the website, certainly. I might have inadvertently posted one to raa.creative in a fit of... something... but if I did I've forgotten. On the whole I doubt it, since the copy I have lying in my archive has never actually been finished.
