"A new twist in video game awards"
|
Since I know a few of the regulars here are playing or have played Eve Online, I am bringing to your attention that MMOgames has decided to break new ground in award categories: Best Eve Online of 2015 Vote early, vote often. -VR This is Eve "They copied all they could follow, but they couldn't copy my mind, And I left 'em sweating and stealing a year and a half behind." |

>Amazingly, nope, I chose a very opportune time to take a break from >leadership stuff for a while and am very much enjoying not having to >deal with any of it! :V > >By "line grunt", do you mean you're an Imperium guy? If so, feel free >to hit me up on GSF jabber if you have questions - I'm Kesper North in >EVE. I've known Blawrf and Endie for years, and even met Blawrf in >person a couple of times. This probably isn't the right venue for it, >since it has nothing to do with EPU or even games people besides us >two play...I figured it was you, once I had that resume and a couple of google searches. Not many people fit that description. The corp I was with used to be in TEST awhile ago. I was winning Eve, but with the changes and the progress CCP is making subbing is looking viable. Obviously, I have kept following Eve news (it's the Hotel California of video games). -VR Eve Drama, best drama, especially when it happens to someone else. >I used to be part of Hack3r INC during the Delta Green days, and moved >over to PGGB for a while before deciding I needed a break. > >One of these days I may re-sub...I never did actually take a Moros out >after I finished skilling up for it. Depending on the kind of gameplay you like, it may be a ~not~bad~ time to resub. Over the last several years subcaps have been heavily rebalanced, so if fighting in subcaps was your thing it is as good as it's ever been if not better. New ship types and roles are mostly more clearly delineated (with some unfortunate exceptions, RIP Assault Frigates) and have made the days where "all frigates are Rifters, all battlecruisers are Drakes" a thing of the past. Capitals are in the middle of a rebalance after having had jumping nerfed heavily in order to reduce power projection. This, in conjunction with a big change in sov mechanics have left them with not a lot of roles, so they are trying to fix that. OTOH, apparently you can now get into bigger fights without having to worry about someone (*cough* PL *cough*) hotdropping you from 4 regions away. This has also affected jump freighters, so even more logistics managers needed to be put on burnout watch. This is balanced out some by upgrades to local nullsec manufacturing and mining, but there is still a lot of stuff the needs to be shipped. As mentioned, there was a big change in sov mechanics in the Aegis release, with wildly varying reports on how good it it. It does seem to reward higher player density and in-system activity and less holding systems just because you can. Renting appears to be much harder to do. eriktown will almost certainly have a lot more insight into that than I do. It appears that CCP is trying to make circa 200 vs. 200 fights the dominant strategic level, as the really huge fights (2000 vs. 2000) are really hard on the cluster hardware and administration, even with time dilation (and fighting in deep TiDi is boring as hell to do, if fun to read about). So a lot of the changes appear to be targeted at driving the meta in this direction. Eve players, being jaded and entitled, are responding in a variety of ways with the usual whining, meta-gaming, and other ways of missing the point. Industry was rebuilt awhile ago, with mixed results. Best part according to an industrialist friend was now there are unlimited manufacturing/research slots, they just get more expensive to use as more are used in a station. The only thing I've ever manufactured is Tech 1 ammunition, so I have no real feel for this. The PvE hasn't changed much, though there are signs that they are starting to do something about it. This Halloween there was a trans-cluster Blood Raiders PvE event and there is a Serpentis Christmas event ("Frostline") going on right now. There is improved NPC AI infrastructure based on the wormhole Sleeper AI, and it has been used for the new burner missions, which are level 4 missions that are intended to be more like small gang PvP fighting. Mining has had ship rebalances and new ships added, along with changing ores and nerfing refining. They are in the middle of upgrading the cluster hardware, they set up a test cluster with the all new hardware and it had ~truly~excellent~ performance by all accounts. The new boxes are being shipped off to London and will be fully installed probably by the end of February. -VR What is Eve (CCP Falcon) "They copied all they could follow, but they couldn't copy my mind, And I left 'em sweating and stealing a year and a half behind." |
