"2007 Valkyrie Profiles Calender"
|
Is it just me, or is anyone else amused by the fact that the first Valkyrie Profile is, in fact, Lenneth? And I absolutely love the mass assortment of robot and robotic kibble in the background. -D- "I don't tell you how to remove bullets. >Is it just me, or is anyone else amused by the fact that the first >Valkyrie Profile is, in fact, Lenneth? Heh. The funny thing is, it's a coincidence. Not only is our Lenneth not supposed to be the character from Valyrie Profile, the only real reason she's the January offering is because she's the only finished one that's not already earmarked for some other month. :) >And I absolutely love the mass assortment of robot and robotic kibble >in the background. Being a total VP junkie myself (My sig is from there, and you have to jump through some big hoops to unlock that quote, too!), I got it the week it came out and I knew it was before SotS. And VP is copyrighted 2000, according to the PSX box, when Gryphon's preface to SotS is dated June 3, 2001. And, of course, he already stated in another thread (an annotation?) he got the name from VP. "They say one should not speak unkindly of the dead, so I say, 'nice try'." --Lezard |

>And, of course, he already stated in >another thread (an annotation?) he got the name from VP. It's come up several times since Lenneth first appeared in Interlude in the Golden City. The name came to me indirectly; I'd never seen or played Valkyrie Profile, and someone - I don't know who now, might've been a Suspect, might've been someone on the Forum - said "Well, if you need a name for one, there's always Lenneth." I liked the ring of it, and so, there we are. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Hutchins, Co-Founder, Editor-in-Chief, & Forum Admin Eyrie Productions, Unlimited http://www.eyrie-productions.com/

I don't remember there being a game before the PSP version, so...my bad. Having said that, 2000-2001 was my last year in college (18 credit hours per semester, all upper level classes), and I had just gotten married, and my wife was expecting, so I probably had other things on my mind. In fact, after I beat Chrono Cross, the next RPG I was able to play through was Kingdom Hearts, and I got that right before KH II came out. So RPG's from 2000-2005 are kind of a blur for me. -D- "I don't tell you how to remove bullets. Don't you tell me how to make killing machines back into little girls." >Well, VP came out at the end of the PSX's lifespan. It was pretty easy >to miss, even by those who were paying attention at the time. Going byIt also had a very small production run. Not as small as, say, "Panzer Dragoon RPG", but small enough that it is still one of the highest-priced games on eBay despite the PSP rerelease. The PSP version is almost exactly the same game, with the addition of the 3DCG cutscenes and less the bug fix that was made to the US version because Square-Enix used the Japanese code for the rerelease. >the established pattern, VP3 will be released shortly before the PS4. Nah. PS2 still has a lot of life left to it. Even so, tri-Ace will need to do another Star Ocean game before they can revisit Valkyrie Profile. -- Rat That and five bucks will get you a small coffee at Starbucks |

>I even spotted Twinkie from Buck Rogers. ObNitPick: "Twiki" (at least, according to imdb, anyway...I always heard it as closer to 'twiggy', personally :) There were a few I didn't recognize in that pile, but the ones I did recognize, amused me all to heck and back. and, while I'm commenting...the art is beautiful, even over and above the content thereof. kudos, Dave.

To the Miranda question-a'yep. I'm part of their "Rogue Group". I'm mostly hoping for Gunnr because she's one of my favorite Valk's but also to see what she actually looks like you know? There is that sketch outline on the SOS Images section but it's just a sketch. >>Here's to hoping that Gunnr Brynelfr is Feb's Valkyrie. > >Oh, agree 100%. > >As for your .sig - Star Trek: Miranda? Vas ist?

>Here's to hoping that Gunnr Brynelfr is Feb's Valkyrie. IHNJ, IJLTS: Gunnr/Juni hug. (Oh, I've been re-reading recently, and, well, Symphony of the Sword has strong loving couples and hot steamy couples and awkward incestuous non-couples and noble royal couples and mystically fated couples and eminently practical couples. But the aww, cute couples get their chance too, and that's a Good Thing.)

Looks like February brings on the cold with Svanhvit Icebinder. I see you finally got R-Type to take you up on that challenge to draw her with clothes on. ;) |

Am I the only person that likes the >notion of using a wicked chain weapon over the ubiquitous sword? I see room for compromise here. Next time she should wield sword-chucks. That said, I'm curious about said chain weapon, given it's apparently a 'based on, but different' kind of weapon as opposed to one that actually exists. |

LAST EDITED ON Jan-20-07 AT 00:11 AM (EST) by Wedge (moderator) edit: no http:// in hyperlinks in DCF. --wedge> >>Actually, I was most curious about this rendition of Svanhvit, as >>well...in particular, her weapon. Something like this, perhaps? Edit: It's worth pointing out that the weapon in the above link is sort of an exalted-fied/wuxia-fied/over the top rendition of an actual weapon, called a Kusarigama, which is a sickle attached to a long chain. Scary indeed. |

>Actually, I was most curious about this rendition of Svanhvit, as >well...in particular, her weapon.Well, that's easily enough explained: Larry felt like drawing a sword. That's it! No deep mystery here. As for her customary weapon, it's nothing impressively fanciful, as some seem to think. It's basically just a manrikigusari or meteor hammer. The only thing that's really fantasy-based about it is the gauge of the chain, which tends to be a little exaggerated. Maybe the art staff just doesn't think it'd be interesting-looking enough to bother with. :) --G. -><- Benjamin D.
