>hmm...conscider me clueless...carbomite?
The first episode of the original Star Trek to air after the pilot was entitled "The Corbomite Maneuver". In it, Captain Kirk fakes out the captain of a clearly superior alien ship, seemingly bent on destroying the Enterprise, that all Federation ships include in their makeup a substance called "corbomite" that, when attacked, reciprocates accordingly, assuring mutual destruction. He then dares the alien to come on and shoot if he's got the guts - death means little to the men of the Federation and they're getting tired of the alien's fooling around. This is all horseshit, but the alien buys it and the day is saved. :)
This happened early in the Enterprise's first five-year mission under Kirk, which was quite a few years before young Lt. Prescott was born; this makes it Historical Fact. He probably did at least one term paper on the early career of James T. Kirk during his time at Starfleet Academy.
