"STO: Agents of Yesterday SPOILERS"
|
Slightly surprising that I'm the one starting this, figured that someone else would have already, but guess not. So, this July, STO is kicking off its next expansion, Agents of Yesterday, which gives you the option to play as a TOS captain. SPOILERS past this point. Well, you can play as a TOS captain for currently six missions, then you get swept forward to the main game timeline. Cryptic is doing its usual IMHO bad job of promoting this, but say there are more than just those six missions coming. I'm skeptical. But cryptic is happy to say they are selling you a full set of T1 to T6 ships which can all be made to look like TOS ships, and I will say that they seem to have done pretty good with them. There is also a free T1 TOS ship Pioneer class, which I must say looks gorgeous. If anyone wants to see, well, subscribers can go play those six mission on Tribble, bugs and all. The rest, well, Yuzral on youtube is doing his usual spoilers run on the missions and he's pretty good on the whole youtube thing I think. I won't fight you Atton. I don't care, I just want you to die. (Disciple and Atton KOTOR2) |

STO interest seems to have died off fairly quickly around here, but that's cool. There are definitely more than six missions - it looks like ones beyond the first arc for TOS players will be sprinkled through the main story, which is cool. Two other interesting facts: 1. There will be some degree of crossover with the JJTrek universe. An NPC was briefly spotted in Earth Spacedock who was also present in Into Dorkness. To what degree has not yet been announced, but I'd expect some sort of cross-promotional event with Beyond hitting soon. 2. The game is also getting a huge graphical overhaul and heading to modern consoles. This speaks well to its longevity. |

Yeah, I got back in STO the other day after having been away for close to two years (last time I played, the Odyssey class was brand-new) and have been slowly powering my way through a new character. Decided to go Fed tactical after having played Fed engineering last go around and have been amazed by the changes. Though one of the items that drew me back, namely being able to own my own Ambassador class, has fallen by the wayside as I've come to realize that a cruiser doesn't work well for a build meant for escorts. Maybe if I could fit some cannons on that Amby, I'd take her out for a spin. So when I saw the advertisements for AoY, I was tickled pink. I see they're even introducing the Daedalus class to the game. But it's a science cruiser, aka the squishy mage class of characters. May have to create yet another character... -------------------------- CdrMike, Renegade Time Lord "I have questions, but number one is this: What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?" You could try what I call the 'Turret Farm' build - put every slot you can into turrets, then back it up with the cannon-escort powerset and climb into your victim's face. The damage output isn't fantastic, but you've still got cruiser durability, and the ability to shift angle to whichever shield is healthiest, so really it just takes a little longer. ----- The most wonderful thing about BBs Is BBs are wonderful things Their sides are made out of iron Their guns are made out of pain They're crashy smashy bashy flashy fun-fun-fun-fun-fun But the most wonderful thing about BBs Is there is more than one The~re is more than one! |

Ah, so you turn an Ambassador into a "ye olde Earth" battleship, nice. Yeah, I could look into that, though it means a bit of farming for turrets. In the mean time, I have been eyeing the Vesta class in the Z store. That can mount cannons and has a pretty tough hull, plus it comes with goodies even if you don't collect the whole set. Perhaps after my next paycheck, I'll give it another look. -------------------------- CdrMike, Renegade Time Lord "I have questions, but number one is this: What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?"
