Thank you to the UF folks for never letting Selina Kyle in the door. I don't think it's her charater's fault per se, but DC 52...ugh. If DC keeps this up, I'm going to start boycotting.

She does exist in the UF universe, or at least she did; she was Helena "Catwoman" Wayne-McGinnis's mother. I expect, given the way Lena has been presented in the... um... one appearance she's had to date, that the UF version was largely informed by the old Earth-2 model (the Huntress's mother) and Darwyn Cooke's version from Selina's Big Score. Who is basically a female Charlie Croker, if Charlie Croker had learned his trade from Richard Stark's Parker.

So, you know. She did get it on with Batman at one point, obviously, but it probably happened indoors.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-11 AT 03:46 PM (EDT)

I should note, just for the record, that I haven't read a DC comic in a number of years, and so have no direct exposure to any of the New Hotness (or whatever it is they're calling it). I only know about it what I've picked up osmotically from knowing people who are still bothering - the Infamous Catwoman Panel, for instance, came my way mainly because Ardie said "I MEAN SERIOUSLY WTF IS THIS ABOUT" in the Studio and then there was a link. This is a really interesting and fun way to experience a Total Rebranding Experience of a comic book universe you used to love bigtime stylee. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I am not indulging in sarcasm when I say this. I now feel that Ard, Wedge, and to a certain extent Slarti and Meph read comics so I don't have to. This is not only just as fun, but also way cheaper! :)

This is also largely true of Marvel, lest you think I'm playing favorites, although I have picked up a few out-of-date Marvel trades lately. This means I'm still behind and would still be horribly lost if someone handed me a current issue tomorrow, but at least I've read Young Allies. Which was slightly annoying, actually, because my comics research department (see above) has informed me that the fun new(-to-me) character I discovered therein had already been killed off before I ever knew she existed. That's life in the big city, though. Besides, it's comics, she'll be back. :)

On the downside, my internal source concatenator is now persistently trying to combine Nomad and NOMAD, and even I will readily acknowledge that that's just not ever going to work.

I too have a friend who keeps me up to date(non-consentually) on Marvel's current foolishness, what they are calling the "Earth 616" timeline. Considering his indignant and sometimes vitriolic tone, I firmly believe that he reads them only to have something fictitious upon which to focus his rage.

Maybe it keeps him from harming animals or something.

The only comic that I read any more is Power Girl, and I get it second hand at that.
I gave up on Spiderman over 5 years ago.

I had vaguely remember Helena had taken on the name, but I hadn't drawn the obvious lines.

I admit, I feel mixed on this. The Feminist in me is saying "don't put the blame on the character! blame her writers/arists!". But I keep thinking about the catwoman character have decided that DC can't make up their mind either about what type of person she is, so they just decide to pick up on her sexiness and roll with that. It's lazy thinking. It offends me that a character that should be awesome (thief + smarter than batman = win) is left being nothing more then a smarter than average sex object. Which I admit, is still better than Starfire.

Stuff like this never happens to Superman. Or Batman.

grr,

It's not all bad. "Demon Knights", for example, is a dark-fantasy medieval DC universe tale, with Jason Blood, Madame Xanadu, Vandal Savage, the Shining Knight, and probably a few more showing up soon. It also has dinosaurs. (No, it makes sense in context.)

It also has Etrigan as the romantic lead. Not Jason. Etrigan.

Oh, and Vandal Savage is not the 'cool and calculating evil bastard' we're used to. He's the barbarian warrior. He wants into a tavern, gets told it's closed, so he breaks down the door with an axe, and kills nobody, just wants some damn service.

There are some good things coming out of 52. Just... some really BAD things, too.

(Oh, Starfire, why...)

In fairness, dinosaurs make sense regardless of context.

Well, Eyrie did it first. And with enough raised eyebrows to make it clear that yeah, everyone thought it was weird.

I'm still not convinced DC is worth my dime. I'm already mourning the time I spent this week trying to catchup with the revision. Total waste.

Oh, there's a lot of stuff that's not worth the paper it's printed on, but that one pings my 'hey, that's neat' meter.

For what it's worth, it looks like The Adventures of Jaime and Paco (also known as Blue Beetle) is starting out strong.
