"Battletech late backer opportunity"

LAST EDITED ON Aug-04-16 AT 01:45 PM (EDT)

If anybody missed/had to pass on the Battletech Kickstarter and is now regretting it, a project update just went out announcing that they've opened up an opportunity for late backers to jump in via Backerkit (the service they're using to distribute the stretch goal swag). As the email puts it:

"Now that all the design, production, manufacturing, and shipping for physical rewards is behind us, we feel comfortable opening up a limited number of DIGITAL-ONLY Backer levels, so that folks who missed our Kickstarter can become Late Backers and reinforce the mission."

As the statement above suggests, you can't get any of the physical loot, but you can preorder the game via that link, which lets you jump in at levels akin to (IIRC) the first three tiers of the Kickstarter, with various digital bits and bobs (soundtrack, PDF artbook, and so forth).

Note that this is the unstable new future, and as such I can make no warranty that the game will actually happen. I believe it will, they seem to be fairly well along at this point, and the company has a track record of not taking the money and running (as we will recall, they're the same crew who did Shadowrun Returns), but, y'know, shit happens. I'm a backer, so I'll be just as disappointed as you if it somehow falls through. Well, maybe not just as, since the email implies that they've shipped my loot. But I'd still be sad not to get the game. Like I said, though, I believe it'll happen. And because FASA isn't involved, the binding won't fall apart! :)

I'm with Gryph on this. I am also a backer of th Kickstater, but I looked them up and did some research before backing. They have a pretty solid track record on delivering their products. Their Shadow Run games have some decent reviews.

But shit can happen, but I think this one is a pretty safe bet that we will get a sweet game.

Just my 2 cents.

Amusing, you put this up the day after a friend sent me the link to their pre-alpha build gameplay footage.

Gave them a bit of money myself even though I'm not a very solid Battletech fan. I have their Shadowrun games and thoroughly enjoyed both. They are still active on the forums for the games so they do keep tabs with the community. Barring anything extreme happening, it's a pretty safe bet that donations will go toward the product advertised.
