"pre-tease: Battle 08 NORTH"
|
LAST EDITED ON Dec-19-16 AT 06:27 PM (EST) All right, all right, you win. I'll do it.(Not the most imaginative title, I admit.) --G. -><- Benjamin D. When I got home from Mexico City, I found a letter waiting for me from an old friend in Hong Kong, summoning me there to compete in the upcoming Kumite fight tournament. This is not something I would normally do, since this tournament is a) illegal even by the, er, liberal standards of Hong Kong; b) run by Japan's most vicious criminal syndicate, with which I have had past dealings that their leadership found... unsatisfactory; and c) off-limits to World Circuit fighters, which means just showing up for it will jeopardize my World Warrior standing. Besides, I've got a student now, and the Kumite is no place for a kid, even one like Sakura. But, a promise is a promise, so I'm going to have to do it. It's a treacherous shindig, the Kumite—much rougher than a World Circuit event, and with far higher stakes. If I'm going to compete, I should spend the three months I have to prepare for it in serious training, and staying far out of the way of anything resembling trouble. I should definitely not go wandering off on any long-drawn-out road trips with uncertain prospects in far-flung, difficult places I know almost nothing about. So naturally I'm in Nunavut.

>I just can't think for the life of me who'd be in such a place. =)She means well, she genuinely does. She has the least complicated heart of anyone I know. It's just that she was raised by wolves. Or super-secretive cultists convinced she's the chosen one who will... oh, I forget, bring balance to the Force or some damn thing. Which is basically the same thing, outcomes-wise. One of the side effects of this is that she is also the least practical person I know. Which is why her plan for getting to Port Morton—a place so remote and insignificant that the government of Nunavut hasn't even bothered to replace its Qallunaat name with an Inuit one—involved flying into Winnipeg and hiring a livery cab.But she's learning! She thought to bring supplies this time. Now that we have a kilo of beef jerky and some bottled water, I'm sure nothing can go wrong. --G. -><- Benjamin D. Oh, dear heavens. Still racking my brains as to who it could be, both in terms of the person described here and where Our Heroes are going, but since there's certainly King of Fighters characters canon in this world...well, crazy super-secret cultists is something that game series has. In spades. Street Fighter 5 does, too, though I haven't had any indication Gryphon has played or even seen it. Kolin (aka Helen) could fit. Of course, they could be totally unrelated. We'll find out! And I'll keep racking my brain. These are games I know something about, dangit. =) ------ Fearless creatures, we all learn to fight the Reaper Can't defeat Her, so instead I'll have to be Her |

I feel that the title of this episode should be "Having Nunavut," but I think that pun is illegal in seven countries in accordance with a Geneva convention*. It's probably the label on the box holding the dailies, to throw off the fans, much like "Torchwood" was originally. Ebony the Black Dragon Not THE Geneva Convention. A Geneva convention. Probably GenCon. "Life is like an anole. Sometimes it's green. Sometimes it's brown. But it's always a small Caribbean lizard." |
