"domain expiry"

LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-08 AT 10:43 AM (EDT)

Q. Why ought we never to simply abandon an email address to the bucket and escape the vastness of spam it receives, no matter how tempting it is?

A. Because we will forget to change our email address with at least one of our important service providers, miss the cycle of notifications about impending expiration of a service, and end up letting the domain name of our website expire.

That's fixed now and, if any of you got briefly stymied by the DNS falling off the edge of the world, normal service should be resumed shortly.

Thanks to the thoughtful reader who dug up my phone number and notified me that this had happened (and who, if my fuzzy memory of the conversation serves, never mentioned his name). I probably came off as somewhat less than gracious on the phone, because I had a late night last night and you woke me up, but I do appreciate the heads-up. Thanks also to Glen Harris, who dropped an email to the same abandoned address, but actually got through because, unlike my domain registrar apparently, he's on my whitelist; I didn't get his message until after I'd fixed the thing, but it's the thought that counts.

Sorry about waking you up. I first noticed it around 2 AM Millinocket time, and didn't want to call then. It seems I chose... poorly.

Glad to see you got it fixed, I didn't want to find eyrie-productions.com trying to sell me Viagra tomorrow. ;) While we're at it, eyrie.net is up in October.

small update: I filed a renewal this morning, but it may not propagate fully until the echeck clears. No big deal, no danger of deletion, but it may be a bit of a pain. In the meantime, eyrie.net still works, which you probably already know if you're reading this and you're someplace that still thinks e-p is unregistered.
