"A word on Star Trek and spoilers"

LAST EDITED ON May-25-09 AT 01:54 PM (EDT)

So. Star Trek opens this weekend. Ardie and I went to a crew screening last night at Paramount, and it's... heh. It's not running in the very high 90's % on Rotten Tomatoes on a fluke.

That being said, while we understand a lot of you are going to be *very* excited to discuss the movie, there's going to be people amongst yourselves who aren't going to be able to go this weekend. Indeed, there are people on the staff here who aren't going to be able to go for a bit for various reasons.

As a courtesy to them and us, please, *please,* mind spoilers in your posts. I'd prefer to just have none at all for a week or two, but if you absolutely feel you must, please make sure it's clearly marked as such in the subject line at the head of the subject line, and if you can make an effort to not make them first thing or blatantly obvious in your posts.

We'll be hanging around with the mod-sticks to try and cover up and flag stuff if needs be, but we're not around all the time, so it'd be much better if you were all self-moderating in this case.

That being said, go to the movies this weekend if you can! We'll be going again (and cheerily paying LA prices to boot). We're both proud of the work we did, and personally it's nice to have worked on a Star Trek movie that I don't have to apologize for. :D

You guys worked on it? Nice.

No spoilers, but I just got back from it and I am extremely fucking impressed. I didn't really 'get' Trek until this afternoon, but now I think I understand why so many people (authors on this site included) hold it in such high regard.

Just got back myself, and I'm *so* enamored of it that I'm heading out for the midnight performance. (fanboy! faaaaaaaaannnnnnnbooooyyyy!)

Totally worth it, especially if you can see it in Imax.

We just got back from a 10pm screening, and are pondering the IMAX for Sunday afternoon.

It holds up nicely in front of a real-world audience; a crew screening has a very different atmosphere, and we wanted to see how it played to people who didn't spend a huge chunk of last year working on it.

It's been a week and I've gone ahead and deleted all the cross-postings of this. There's still a couple few staff members who've yet to see it, so discretion is still the better part of spoilers, as it were. Just make sure your subjects are clearly marked if you're giving anything major away.

And thanks for being so cool about it this week, guys. Much appreciated.

   Absolutely.

Dunno 'bout everyone (though I expect it's pretty universal overall...), but I know how much I hate good things being spoiled, and it's a far more interesting discourse when everyone's on the same page anyway.
