"Can I get my Z-Walk on?"
|
Greetings from the Southern part of Heaven, a.k.a. Chapel Hill, NC (how pretentious is that?). Anyway, I'm Zack, currently a junior poli-sci major at UNC-Chapel Hill. Once upon a time I was forum member under the name zphunk, but I stopped posting and lost my membership. I can't remember exactly when I first started reading Eyrie fiction, probably around my freshman year of high school, when I was really big into anime...'97 I guess. Nowadays, anime doesn't interest me anymore, but I still dig Eyrie. It may not be great literature, but then again, how many Steinbeck novels have interstellar combat and fist-fights between giant robots and fire demons? (Of course, I haven't read any Steinbeck, so I could be wrong.) Well, that's about it for now. Peace out Stay Chilly |

Though I personally can't call anything heaven that never sees an actual winter. >Though I personally can't call anything heaven that never sees an >actual winter. With actual snow. > >-- Sean -- Yeah, I can relate. I'm originally from Baltimore, so North Carolina's sorry excuse for winter, and the indigenous population's overreactions to it, are both amusing and exasperating. Of course, this summer, up until last week, it was hotter than Hell. |

I know the feeling, having moved from Snow City, I mean Buffalo, NY, to Philadelphia. A foot of snow and they're closing schools? Lightweights. |

Actually, it wasn't that hot, as such things go -- North Carolina summers are mild by Southern standards. (Too damn hot for this yankee, but I know it could be worse.) But, yes, the winter thing here is amusing. "OH MY GOD! A FLAKE!" *squeal of tires as the 350,000 inhabitants of Greensboro all head to the grocery store at once, and completely deplete the Podunk Triad of canned goods and bread* Meanwhile, I'm standing around going, "um... guys... it isn't winter until you have to scrape a quarter inch of ice off your car every other morning..." -- Sean -- Rabid Crack Weasel #42 "All tribal myths are true, for a given value of 'true'." -- Terry Pratchett Drelau Productions Follow my creative process

>Of course, this summer, up until last week, it was hotter than Hell. Hot? If it weren't for the humidity, the Carolinas would be considered balmy and spring-like where I live. Then again, where I live, the average daytime temperature in the summer is hovering somewhere close to 100 - in the same way a Russian cargo transport is hovering somewhere close to the ground. Last week, for instance, temps were around 110 most afternoons, and didn't drop below 90 until at least an hour after sunset. Right now, (12:30 a.m.), it's just above 80, and I expect it should get down to around 75 before sunrise. On the other hand, our dry climate makes winters kind of a drag. Nothing like temps that can get down to -50 (before figuring wind chill), yet have only a light dusting of snow in the lee of trees, sagebrush piles, and other obstacles. Luckily, that's 200 miles north of me, where my mother lives. Winter conditions where I live are just as dry, but we only drop to between 0 and 10 above. |

>Hot? If it weren't for the humidity, the Carolinas would be considered >balmy and spring-like where I live. The humidity is what kills you. When you're sitting around with maximum surface area exposed for cooling purposes, and then your wooden chair sticks to you... and your fingers are stuck together... ugh. And it also makes sweating kind of pointless. -- Sean -- Rabid Crack Weasel #42 "All tribal myths are true, for a given value of 'true'." -- Terry Pratchett Drelau Productions Follow my creative process
