Subject: question

I hate to nitpick -- Well, not really, I love to nitpick... I am a programmer after all, and nitpicking is part of the game -- but shouldn't that be something more like @wpi.k12.ma.us? I wouldn't ask but for two reasons. (A) The stories specifically note that there is still a United States of America* and (B) I creating a dot-k12 would help the ever-growing Internet -- specifically since dot-us and dot-enter-your-state-here extensions would allow for much more schools than just dot-k12. Anyway, not trying to detract from the otherwise great* stories, I just wanted ask*.

(*Note: I forgot about the Canadian excursion in SOS1 whilst reading SOS3 and waited until one of the Intermezzo pieces to realize there were still nations.)
(*Note: Great as in "Dude, this is almost like the Core stories all over again! I' forgotten how much I ewnjoyed WPI as reflected through (alumni) Wedge rat eyes.)
(*Note: I also just like to nitpick computer stuff in fiction; it's one reason I like Neal Stephenson so much... He gets it right, as opposed to many others.)

Possibly. Actually, being that WPI is a private institution, I suspect it ought to have been something more esoteric, like "worcesterprep.org", but I didn't feel like doing that, so I made up the k12 TLD to be akin to .edu. Plus, the way .us is administered irritated the heck out of me back when I was a hostmaster.

Unless it's changed by 2405, February 11th would still be on EST, not EDT.

Not if the "D" stands for something other than "Daylight" in 2405. :)

Yeah, actually, that's two mistakes in one. There's no Daylight Savings Time foolishness in the twenty-fifth century. It ought to read "-0500 (ET)".

In fact... it does.

Or if it's the first sign of Durandal's rampancy.

I believe it's:

>X-Sender: durandal@localhost.localdomain

A Unix system would either be blank have just the user id or full domain, right?

Really? Don't tell rei... she'll be upset that she's been doing my mail headers wrong all this time.

If it comes down to my word versus a Unix machine... I withdraw my guess.

actually, it has to do with how both name service and sendmail are setup on the machine in question (assuming you're using the beast that is sendmail)

No, I'm not going to go into details....the less said about sendmail, the better, IMHO
